Happy Veterans Day weekend! 🇺🇸

Incredible day at the Texas Longhorns game, where I joined leaders of the Texas Lottery Commission and Texas Veterans Commission to celebrate $250 million raised for Texas veterans by the Veterans Cash lottery game.

Former Senator Leticia Van de Putte and I passed the law to create Veterans Cash and raise money for veterans services in 2009. Since then, we have funded:

🇺🇸Veterans Courts
🇺🇸Mental Health Services
🇺🇸Job training and employment opportunities
🇺🇸Emergency Assistance
🇺🇸Counseling services
🇺🇸Transportation services
🇺🇸Housing assistance

And much more! Very gratifying to have been part of this successful effort to provide needed resources for those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.

No doubt about it – last night was really tough in Texas and across the country.

I have a few thoughts on that, but first, I want to thank the voters of House District 101 for entrusting me with the continued privilege of representing our community in Austin. I am honored to have won re-election with an overwhelming margin of 65%.

It’s clear that my record of fighting for our public schools, working to expand health care access and delivering for Tarrant County resonated with the voters. With the election over, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get back to work on the real issues facing our state.

Thank you to our campaign donors and volunteers who made this victory possible, my staff who works hard for our district every day and, most importantly, Lisa and the rest of my family for their love and support.

There is no other way to say it – the outcome in the presidential race is a gut punch. So are the results in Texas, where we lost ground in the Legislature and the courts.

There are already a lot of hot takes with respect to what went wrong yesterday. I encourage everyone to ignore those for a while. Fundamentally, it’s clear this was a change election. Despite the U.S. economy recovering from the pandemic better and faster than any other in the world, the impact of inflation is a real issue for many Americans. That dynamic became a huge obstacle for Democrats, as the party in power at the national level.

There’ll be plenty of time to analyze the data from the 2024 election and draw lessons to inform future campaigns.

I first ran for the Legislature because I thought state government needed to do more to increase opportunity for Texas families. To me, that means strengthening public education. Ensuring public safety. Expanding access to affordable health care. Honoring the dignity of work. Respecting our veterans not just with rhetoric, but with results. Protecting people’s personal freedoms and choices.

Those are the values I still hold today. And I’m as motivated as ever to keep fighting to increase opportunities for all Texans. I think that’s fundamentally what people want from their government, and these are the challenges they expect us to address.

So, let’s take a little time to rest, reflect and recharge. And then it’s back to work – our country and our state deserve nothing less.

Representing Southeast Tarrant County is the honor of a lifetime, and one that I will never take for granted. I’m ready to return to Austin to continue the fight for our community & our values!

I enjoyed talking to so many voters during early voting over the last two weeks. More than 50,000 voters in District 101 have already voted in this election! If you haven’t cast your ballot yet, make your plan to vote Tuesday — polls are open from 7 am - 7 pm, and you can vote at any voter center in Tarrant County. I would be honored to have your vote in this election.

In 2009, Senator Leticia Van de Putte and I passed legislation creating the veterans lottery scratch off game to support the veterans who have sacrificed so much in service to our nation.

This legislation remains one of my proudest accomplishments, and I am thrilled that this game is thriving and has raised a quarter billion dollars for veterans!
