I joined Joey's House, Inc. to celebrate the acceptance of the proceeds collected by sales at Altar'd State Oak Brook!

Joey's House is a nonprofit organization that provides safe, structured, and supportive programming for participants with intellectual disabilities. The best – and most important – part of my job is meeting with the great people who live in our district and talking with them about the issues that matter most to our communities.

That's why I hold regular "Tuesdays with Terra" constituent meetings throughout our district. This month, I'll be talking one-on-one with constituents on Tuesday, July 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn Library, 400 Duane Street.

My office is hosting a Senior Resources Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 6, to help local seniors connect with services and programs available for them in DuPage County.

The fair, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lisle Recreation Center, 1925 Ohio St., is open to seniors in the 42nd District and their families, friends, and other interested people. Representatives of senior-focused organizations throughout DuPage County will be on hand to share information about the services they provide.

We’ll also be collecting donations for Operation Support our Troops - America’s Comfort and Care Package Program at the event. Anyone interested in hosting a table or looking for more information about the fair may contact my office at [email protected] or (630) 812-9292.

I was delighted to join the first group of shoppers at the brand-new Prairie Food Co-op in Lombard, which opened this week after years of consistent effort by co-op leaders.

Prairie Food Co-op is a full-service grocery store, offering organic products and affordable staples. The products include fresh local produce, responsibly sourced meat, fish, and dairy, deli items, beer and wine, and a wide range of household products.

Under the co-op structure, the store is owned by community members and is intended to support local farms and businesses and keep our grocery dollars here in our communities.

While co-op members get special benefits, everyone is welcome to shop there. The Prairie Food Co-op is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 837 S. Westmore-Meyers Road in the Eastgate Shopping Center, between Ace Hardware and the Illinois Secretary of State facility. Thank you to everyone who brought donations of household paper products to our shred event! Today my team and I dropped off the donations at The Outreach House in Lombard, and toured their amazing new location!

The Outreach House provides compassionate and effective assistance to individuals and families in need through four programs: Food Pantry, First Things First (infant needs), Walk-In Assistance (emergency expenses) and Clothes Closet.

As a member of the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus, I can offer small scholarship awards to organizations and programs within our district that promote hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities for youth.

Pet food prices have been soaring over the past few years, so we're collecting wet and dry food for cats and dogs this month to help our seniors provide healthy pet food for their furry friends.

All donations will be given to the Dupage Senior Citizens Council for distribution to local seniors.
