The Borough of Lewistown is seeking applicants for the Job Classification of Clerk/Secretary. The employee in this classification must be able to: communicate both orally and in writing; communicate via phone with both co-workers and customers; perform advanced mathematical and data entry functions; operate various office machines such as computer; multipurpose printer; postage machine, and the like; possess advanced knowledge of general office practices and procedures, be proficient in all MicroSoft applications especially Word and Excel, possess advanced knowledge of accepted bookkeeping methods and procedures; maintain a high level of confidentiality about the business and operations of the Borough of Lewistown; perform all work with extreme accuracy and possess a high level of time sensitivity; interact with the public in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner; interact cooperatively with other Departments of the Borough; assist in the preparation of daily, monthly, quarterly and annual reports, end of month closing of books, daily cashbook entries, and financial reports for Borough Council; type letters and forms; address and otherwise handle mail; prepare and deliver bank deposits; handle filing, and maintenance of filing system; properly address the distribution of various Borough products; prepare billings and invoices; open and distribute mail; collect licenses and permits, and collect the associated fees; serve as "back-up" and/or assist with other departments and offices; follow safety rules and procedures; but most importantly, exude an aura of positivity in all aspects of the job and be able to multi-task effectively.

The Borough of Lewistown will begin collecting Christmas trees on Monday, January 4th 2021 and will continue the collection until Monday, January 11th 2021.
Collection of Christmas trees will be the same day as your normal refuse collection.
Customers wishing to have their tree collected should place the tree at the curb prior to 6AM on their normal collection day.
After this collection period, residents may deliver their trees to the Borough Warehouse facility on Washington Ave. (at no charge) between the Hours of 6:00AM and 2:15PM Monday through Friday.
Resident are reminded that the trees are chipped into mulch and are NOT landfilled.

The 2020 Lewistown Halloween Parade will take place tonight starting at 5:00 p.m.
Washington Avenue will be closed at 5:00 p.m. for line up. The parade will begin at 7:00 p.m. The following streets will be closed for the parade:
Washington Avenue
South Grand Street
Charles Street
South Wayne Street
Wilson Avenue
We are asking that residents please move their vehicles for the parade.
2020 FALL LEAF COLLECTION
The Borough will begin fall leaf collection services on
Monday, November 2, 2020, and will continue until Monday, November 30, 2020.
After this date residents may bring their leaves to the Borough Warehouse facility located at 207 Washington Avenue at no charge from 6:00 AM. to 2:00 P.M.
Collection will be performed Monday through Friday on the next working day following your refuse collection day.
(Example: If your refuse is picked up on Wednesday, your leaves will be collected on Thursday. Friday refuse customers will have their leaves collected on Monday).
Residents who need to dispose of leaves should place them at the curb in any plastic trash bag prior to 6:00 AM on the pickup day.
Borough refuse tags are not required for leaf collection.
(Leaves are NOT permitted to be raked loose into the street.)
Residents are reminded NOT to mix refuse, grass clippings, yard waste or any other materials with the leaves or they will be rejected. You are also not permitted to place leaves in with your normal refuse.
Anyone having questions or requiring additional information may call the Borough Refuse office at 248-1331 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The Borough of Lewistown paving project is anticipated to begin tomorrow morning and continue until Saturday on Manor Drive and South Brown Street. Glenn O'Hawbakers will begin milling Manor Drive after school begins and finish off South Brown Street. Paving will be completed on Friday and Saturday when school is not in session. Residents are asked to park elsewhere than on the street until the project is complete.

The Borough of Lewistown is seeking applicants for the Job Classification of Refuse Collector.
Refuse Collectors must: 1) be able to lift a minimum of 45 pounds to a sufficient height to load into refuse or recycling vehicles or containers; 2) be physically able to maneuver and attach dumpsters or roll-off containers to vehicles for mechanical loading procedures, and have the mobility to follow the truck on its route in varying weather conditions, and 3) be able to access refuse and recyclables at the designated pick up areas.
Refuse Collectors will: 1) lift and load refuse and/or recyclables in bags or from approved containers into refuse and recycling vehicles or containers and maintain working knowledge of Refuse/Recycling policies and procedures and be able to identify and tag improperly prepared materials; 2) clean, maintain and otherwise care for Borough vehicles and/or equipment; 3) maintain alertness and awareness to insure safety when interacting with public pedestrian and vehicle traffic; 4) follow safety rules and procedures prescribed by the Borough of Lewistown Departments; 5) assist Refuse Truck Drivers in the safe operation of department vehicles by “spotting” in backing, turning, or close quarters conditions; 6) assist with the distribution of refuse bags and/or containers; 7) assist with the distribution or directives to the public; 8) assist in the processing and/or preparation of materials for disposal or distribution (including but not limited to: sorting, chipping, baling, etc.); 9) assist personnel in other Borough Departments; and 10) assist with maintaining the locker areas, eating and sanitary facilities of the Borough.
