CNATTU Oceana A variety of Maintenance Training Units (MTUs) provide diversified training for students.

The Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Oceana’s mission is to provide advanced technical training to Department of Defense personnel in direct support of genuine and emerging fleet requirements. In June 2004, Naval Air Maintenance Training Group Detachment Oceana was renamed as the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit, Oceana (CNATTU, Oceana). CNATTU, Oceana, currently

provides curricula for advanced technical training for the F-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, Consolidated Automated Support System (CASS), and other various Automated Test Equipment and aircraft maintenance training courses.

**SPOTLIGHT ON EXCELLENCE **

Please join us in congratulating Aviation Electronics Technician Petty Officer Second Class, Matthew D Armagost Iapello from Long Beach, California, on being recognized as CNATTU Oceana’s Spotlight on Excellence!

Currently assigned to CNATTU Oceana /Student Control, AT2 Armagost Iapello managed 90 student check-ins, resolved 100 loss cases, fixed 24 pay issues, and helped graduate 45 classes. He enlisted in the Navy to pursue higher education, expand his personal and professional horizons, and to build a foundation for long-term leadership.

AM2 Armagost Iapello’s most memorable moment in the Navy was during his 2023 deployment. He was flown off the ship from Sigonella, Italy back to Norfolk just in time to witness the birth of his first child Sienna.

Please join us in welcoming the newest warfighter to the CNATTU Oceana family: AD1(AW) Garrison! ⚓️

As a tried and proven Aviation Machinist's Mate, AD1 Garrison brings years of F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet experience directly from the fleet to our schoolhouse. He is an absolute expert on inspecting, servicing, and repairing GE afterburning turbofan engines and all related subsystems. ✈️🔧

Now, he will be leveraging that hard-earned deckplate knowledge to train the next generation of naval aviation maintainers as our newest AD Instructor.

Congratulations to the outstanding Sailors, Marines, and civilians recognized during our most recent CNATTU Oceana Awards Quarters!

We proudly honored our Sailors, Marines, and Civilians of the Quarter, Instructors of the Quarter, and our newest Master Training Specialist (MTS) recipient. Your hard work and leadership continue to set the standard for excellence across the command.

We want to thank the CNATTU Oceana Petty Officers Association for completing professional development over Admiral Hyman G. Rickover's Principles. The focus was on Principle 2: Responsibility and Accountability. This training reinforced the importance of owning our actions, upholding the highest standards, and leading with integrity—qualities that are essential to mission success and to developing strong Navy leaders.
