North Carolina is taking action to ensure academic excellence and free speech in our schools. Senator Berger, Senator Overcash, and I introduced Senate Bill 227, and today, we passed it in the Senate Education Committee.

✅ Keep the focus on education, not ideology
✅ Protect students from divisive political agendas
✅ Ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all
✅ End DEI offices and divisive training in public schools

We can teach history without forcing educators and students to adopt ideologies inconsistent with equality. This bill ensures our classrooms remain places for learning—not politics.

Today, the Senate Education Committee passed my bill, Senate Bill 55, a common-sense measure to help students stay focused in the classroom by limiting cell phone use during instructional time.

This bill strikes the right balance—allowing technology for educational purposes while reducing distractions that interfere with learning. Schools will establish clear policies, with exceptions for emergencies, medical needs, and special education plans.

We’re committed to keeping classrooms distraction-free so students and teachers can focus on what matters most—learning!

Yesterday, I had the honor of receiving the STEM Advocate Award from FIRST Robotics for my work in the General Assembly supporting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Advocating for STEM isn’t usually a “pain in the neck”—but this week, it unfortunately was!

What makes this award even more special is that the top of it is a 3D-printed model of the Wired Wizards team’s robot from New Hanover! I’ll be proudly showcasing it in my office.

Presented by Conservatives for Clean Energy NC and Chambers for Innovation, this award recognizes my work on clean energy and economic growth, including leading Senate Bill 802 (C-PACE Act). This innovative law provides businesses with long-term, low-cost financing for energy efficiency, water conservation, and building resiliency.

2024 Legislator of the Year Award
Awarded by the NC Travel Industry Association for my efforts to champion North Carolina’s thriving tourism industry—a key pillar of our state’s economy.

What an exciting election cycle and Election Day! I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone who has made it possible for me to serve. To my wife, our children, the many volunteers, and friends — thank you. This campaign has grown to the point where I haven’t even met everyone who contributed to making this year’s victory possible. It is truly humbling to see so many people share the same beliefs and work tirelessly, offering their time, talent, and resources so that I have the opportunity to represent our community.

I know I may never be able to thank everyone who dedicated their time and energy to me, my family, and this campaign, but today marks the beginning of my effort to do so. To all those who stood by me throughout this journey, thank you. To everyone who voted to give me the privilege and responsibility to serve, thank you. And for those who did not cast their vote for me, I hope to earn your trust and your support in the future.
