More Alabama families are facing tough choices at the grocery store. Over 82,000 Alabamians, including many children, have lost SNAP benefits as food costs rise. This increase in need puts pressure on local food banks, which can't fully replace the meals SNAP provides.

Feeding America has released the newest findings of Map The Meal Gap data for 2026. New data shows hunger affects 206,820 people in North Alabama — that's 1 in 6 people. Nearly 1 in 4 children (59,480 children) are uncertain about their next meal. Many face food insecurity but don’t qualify for assistance.

At the Food Bank of North Alabama, we’re working alongside our community to help ensure everyone has access to the food they need.

The Food Bank of North Alabama is hosting a Drive-Thru Food Distribution on Wednesday, August 5th, at DeKalb VFW Fairgrounds!

📅 Date: Wednesday, August 5th
🕙 Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (or until supplies last)
📍 Location: DeKalb VFW Fairgrounds - 151 18th St NE. Fort Payne, AL 35968 (enter on 20th Street)

We'll be distributing free groceries to those in need — all are welcome; no ID required.
