With the warmer weather, our department took training outside and added some exercise and fun. At the training meeting, firefighters wore full turnout gear and played several Pickle Ball matches. We would also to remind everyone about the Fredericktown Fire and Police Community Coalition "Paddle Battle" happening on March 4th. This event will raise funds for the 2023 Shop with a Hero event. The Winter Storm is continuing across the area. City street crews are working hard to plow roadways but unnecessary travel is not recommended. The heavy snow has brought down tree limbs which has caused scattered power outages for City of Fredericktown utility customers. Electric crews are out working on those outages. If you are a City of Fredericktown utility customer that has lost power be sure you have reported the outage to the after hours city utility number.

The Fredericktown Fire Department hopes everyone enjoyed their Christmas celebrations! Today has been a busy day for the department following the winter storm. Warmer temperatures today exposed several previously frozen and broken water/sprinkler lines in area businesses. Firefighters assisted in removing as much water as possible from the buildings so cleanup could begin.

Winter Storm Warning in Effect-

The NWS in St. Louis has issued a Winter Storm warning for Madison County, MO. This storm will begin to affect the region Thursday. The impact of this storm is potentially dangerous due to the extremely cold air that will entrench the area. Wind-driven snow that could be heavy at times will make travel hazardous and not recommended. Plan your Thursday accordingly to avoid being out in the elements. Also, take time to prepare your homes such as ensuring water lines are protected from freezing and you have a way to stay warm in case of utility interruption or malfunction of heating equipment. The Fredericktown Fire Department will work to pass along any further pertinent information regarding this winter storm.

Today is the 96th anniversary of the founding of The Fredericktown Fire Department. In 1926 the department was stationed on West Main St. where the city council chambers currently are housed. The department's only engine was a 1921 Ford Model T and the firefighters' only form of turnout gear was helmets and raincoats. Our department along with the fire service as a whole has seen many changes and advancements over the years. Our department now boasts a fleet of 5 apparatus including two fire engines, a ladder, a light rescue, and a brush truck. We have a roster of 20 volunteer firefighters, and currently hold an ISO rating of 4. The one constant over the last 96 years is our dedication to protecting and serving our community. We appreciate the never-ending support and are looking forward to another great year of working hard to serve our community.

Today is the 1 year anniversary of the EF3 tornado that caused significant damage to the Fredericktown area. Thankfully no serious injuries occurred. Anniversaries such as these serve as a reminder that severe weather can happen anytime and people should always have a way to get severe weather alerts. It's also crucial to have a plan in place for after a storm hits. Here is a link to a recap compiled by the NWS St. Louis: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/8b8f38101c5e4abaa70ad653cdcb6da7

The Department got to facilitate the Fredericktown Elementary students today at the fire station for Fire Safety Week. The kids split up in to three groups where they learned about fire safety with instruction and got to spray some water. This years theme was “fire won’t wait, plan your escape”. Thank you for letting us take a little time to teach such good lessons to your students.

Red Flag Warning for Thursday, October 13th-

Outdoor Burning is highly discouraged! Despite the light rain that fell Wednesday, our region is still considered to be in abnormally dry/drought conditions. The forecasted low dew points and windy weather will make for fast fire spread across the area.

Today, our friends enjoyed running and walking laps in our annual Track-A-Thon. We were joined by many of our community's first responders from Fredericktown Police Department, Madison County Missouri Sheriff's Office, Fredericktown Fire Department, Cherokee Pass Volunteer Fire Department, and Madison County Ambulance District. First responders walked with our students and let them check out some of their vehicles.

Special thanks to our volunteers who helped make Track-A-Thon possible and to Madison County Chamber of Commerce for donating bottled water for our runners!

Thank you to all the students and parents who helped us raise money for our school. Don't forget to collect your pledges and donations and return them to school by Friday, September 24.
Girl Scout Troop #72043 wants to say a big Thank You to the Fredericktown Fire Department. The girls had a great time learning about the role of a firefighter and touring the station. They do say the favorite part was spraying the water. Thanks again for protecting the community and extending the knowledge to our girls.
The Fredericktown Fire Department joined us this afternoon with one of their trucks and a fire hose for a little water fun. First and second grade students enjoyed running through the water spray.

Are you having the haunted trail tonight
I want to express my sincere thanks to your fire department for their quick response to my stove fire tonight. I wasn't cooking and it appears to have been an electrical short. I felt bad calling for what I thought was a minor fire, but was told it was a potential house fire. When something like this happens, it makes you think of what it could have been. Your firefighters came to fight a potential house fire, but thankfully they didn't have to tonight. Thanks again to all of them for their selfless response to my minor fire. We are blessed to have such dedicated first responders in our community. May God bless all of you and keep you safe.
The Fredericktown Fire Department brought their ladder truck to school today to talk to students about fire fighting and cool them off a bit. They were DRENCHED!
