✨ Highlight of the Week ✨

This past Wednesday, the Ventura County Library had the honor of hosting a powerful evening with Dr. Lily Anne Welty Tamai at the Museum of Ventura County's Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula.

As part of the 2026 One Book, One Coast program centered around George Takei's graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy, Dr. Tamai brought Ventura County's own Japanese American history to life, sharing the profound and lasting impact of Executive Order 9066 on families, farms, and communities right here in our own backyard.

✨ Hidden in plain sight. Swipe to discover the beautiful Mixtec culture paintings waiting for you at Albert H. Soliz Library. 🎨

In 2018, thanks to a California Humanities grant, a tribute to Ventura County’s Mixteco community was brought to life right at the library.

By the front door is a painting of Ocho Venado, a legendary & powerful leader celebrated throughout Mixtec history for his extraordinary military conquests and political skill.

Look up above the circulation desk and you’ll find twenty beautifully painted glyphs representing significant historical events and figures of Mixtec culture.
