🔎I spy with my little eye something green. Can you see her?

On the disk of this sunflower sits a tiny green metallic bee hard at work. She’s one of our many native bee species. Unlike honeybees, she doesn’t sting because she doesn’t make honey, and she doesn’t live in a hive. She actually lives underground, where she builds little rooms for herself and her eggs.

She’s a single mom gathering pollen. Once she’s full, she’ll head back to her burrow to make small lumps of bee bread for each egg. That will feed her young until they’re ready to emerge.

Native bees are a huge deal for our ecosystem because they evolved with the plants that grow here. They know exactly how to pollinate our local landscape.

The Kind Mind 5 are simple habits you can use to take care of your mental health every day.
