Another great annual meeting is in the books. Thank you Justice Michelle Rick and district members! The educational sessions were so great that I didn’t leave for much Detroit exploring. Blessed for this opportunity, the greatest of which was being with women judges from all over the country and 65 international women judges.

Today marks the opening of a Texas RioGrande Legal Aid office in Uvalde, with funding from Texas Access to Justice Foundation. The new office -- the first in over a decade -- will support and sustain TRLA’s ability to promote access to justice via state funding by providing civil legal services in Uvalde and the surrounding rural communities.

This hard working team has been crazy busy with trials,regular docket, and treatment court. But we have been supporting the campaign to raise breast cancer awareness. The mission of NAWJ’s Color of Justice is to encourage law students on their professional journeys. I posted about the program previously but wanted to highlight the judges who shared HerStories. The scholarship recipients inspired and moved us too. 👩⚖️💥💪🏽
In conjunction with Texas Latinx Judges’s first high school program, held at EPCC on September 23rd for 160+ students, TLJ held a networking social for members. We thank our El Paso judges and allies who support TLJ through membership and participation!

Gonzalez, Jr—the first Hispanic to serve on the court of appeals in South Texas, the first Hispanic to serve on the Texas Supreme Court, and the first Hispanic to be elected to a statewide office. Born in Weslaco, Texas, Justice Raul A. Gonzalez Jr. received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin before earning his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. Justice Gonzales is a recipient of the St. Thomas More Society Lifetime Achievement Award and was named a State Bar of Texas ‘Texas Legal Legend.’

18th NAWJ Texas Color of Justice program (4th one this year) in Houston. NAWJ started this program in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2001 and has held hundreds of programs all over the nation demonstrating how students can overcome all challenges just like we did 💪🏽👊🏽
