Kæru vinir - þá er komið að því að ég hætti eftir 7 ár sem formaður Íslendingafelagsins. Það hefur verið gaman að vinna fyrir þetta litla samfélag okkar og njóta felagsskaps allra á Þorrablótum, Jólabösurum, 17 júní boðum, o.fl. En nú tekur við annað í lífinu. Kærar þakkir til allra sem hafa hjálpað á þessum tíma, hvort sem er í stjórn eða sem sjálfboðaliðar.

Adalfundurinn er á sunnudag, kl 3. Meðlimir sem vilja taka þátt geta haft samband við okkur í [email protected] til að fá hlekk til geta tengst inn í fundinn.

Dear friends - I’m ending my seven years as President of the Icelandic association this Sunday. I’ve appreciated working for this community and enjoying everyone’s company at Thorrablots, Christmas bazaars, 17th June parties, and more, but now other challenges await me. Thanks to everyone who helped out over the years, whether as Board member or volunteer.

Our annual meeting is this Sunday at 3 (virtual only). Members, please contact us at [email protected] for a link to join us in the annual meeting.

-Gunnar

We were extra-motivated to have a great Christmas bazaar last November because we had decided to give a majority of the proceeds to charity. Turnout and sales were indeed great, and we were delighted to be able to donate $2,000 each to two great organizations, Médecins Sans Frontières / MSF/Doctors without Borders, which provides emergency medical aid to people in crisis, and World Central Kitchen, which provides meals to people who are victims of natural disasters and other crises. Both organizations have been active in helping victims of Russia's invasion into Ukraine. Attached are the letters we recently received from each group. Thanks to everyone who helped raise these funds by participating in the bazaar, whether as volunteer or shopper.

SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL Manassas Viking Festival founder Erna Pomrenke at her Northern Virginia Icelandic Association of Washington DC Christmas Bazaar this weekend. Crafts with amber jewelry, recycled glassware, knits, wood, and leather. Shopping is on!
I just wanted to say that I have just finished "Fish Have No Feet" by Jón Kalman Stefánsson. It was a stunning book and amongst other things it introduced me to the 70s Icelandic band Brimkló. I now cannot get their song "Ég mun aldrei gleyma þér´out of my head! It's also helped my very preliminary attempts to know more of the Icelandic language.
Thanks for inviting me to like your page. I have always been fascinated by your country. Would love to establish a way our firm could be of service to you all and DIVERSIFY business!
