TONIGHT!!!!

Come to council tonight @6.
Let council know you expect no deal with Thor, they had no completed site plan approval and Data Center Moratorium is in place with a ban on the ballot! They can apply for another type of zoning approved project or move on. The lawsuit is a threat and bully situation, the facts are in our favor.

If you vote in Urbana make sure you are registered and get out there and vote in November!

"The Inborn Brilliance of Spiders" will be presented by Dr. Richard Bradley of The Ohio State University at 7PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Cedar Bog. Dr. Bradley presented such a fascinating program for us last year that we asked him to come back. Since spiders are more active at night, we will be heading out on the boardwalk after the 7PM program to look for these amazing creatures. This is a rare opportunity to explore Cedar Bog Nature Preserve at night with an expert on spiders! Won't you join us? $5 per person; Free for CBA and OHC members.

This is what we are trying to protect!

A mile-plus boardwalk carries you over ground that has not really changed since the last Ice Age. Cedar Bog Nature Preserve in Urbana, Ohio protects about 450 acres of what was once a 7,000 acre wetland, and despite the name it is technically a fen: groundwater from the Mad River Valley flows through it rather than sitting still. That constant cold seep keeps the ground unusually chilly, which is why northern white cedar and bog birch still grow here thousands of years after the glaciers retreated.

The preserve is a National Natural Landmark and holds roughly 40 percent of Ohio's rare species in one place, including the endangered spotted turtle, the massasauga rattlesnake, and Milbert's tortoiseshell butterfly. Wildflower season builds through the year, with skunk cabbage pushing up first, marsh marigolds following, and showy lady's slipper orchids arriving in May. In 1942 it became the first nature preserve in Ohio purchased with state funds, and it remains a quiet, walkable window into the state's deep past. Have you visited Cedar Bog Nature Preserve?

A huge shout out to the Urbana community (including Cedar Bog, folks from outside the city limits, all close enough to care about this) for continuing to pack City Council meetings! It makes a difference!
There are two very important pieces of news to share, particularly pertinent to Urbana city voters. There are two petitions circulating to put on the ballot so action needs to happen on these asap.
1. A petition to ban data centers locally. The statewide ban is too late to help us at this point. This will hopefully give the people of Urbana the power to decide its fate regarding data centers.
2. A petition to recall Bill Bean as mayor of Urbana.
Watch for news as to when and where you can sign these petitions in Urbana! We’ll try to update as we have that information.
Brad Winner also shared timelines and key players that helped this whole fiasco come about. Disheartening.
