Today we celebrated Arbor Day with the Utica University Football team and Mayor Galime at Lincoln Playground. Mike Mahanna, our board member, taught the group how to plant the trees. Now the park has 20 new trees as part of Utica’s Urban Tree Revitalization Program. More to come tomorrow!!! Thanks to the UU team and Coach Faggiano!

GreenUtica is happy to participate in Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful—a 6-county clean up event that takes place every year. We gathered for a kick-off at Pixley Playground today with Mayor Galime and Gene Allen from the City of Utica. When we host volunteer cleanup events in Utica’s parks, we count the bags of garbage we collect and report back to KMVB. They include our efforts in their year end tally. Let’s keep our parks and Mohawk Valley Beautiful!!

If you want to hear about the history of Utica's trees, go to the Oneida County History Center this Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 pm to hear arborist and GreenUtica board member, Mike Mahanna, present "The Journey of a Canopy."

Have you ever wondered why so many neighborhoods in Utica are named after trees? 🌳 It’s time to explore the roots of our city’s green history!

Join us at the History Center on Saturday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m. for “The Journey of a Canopy,” featuring expert arborist Michael Mahanna. Discover the transformation of Utica's landscape, from the iconic elm-lined streets of the 1800s to modern-day efforts to restore our urban forest and learn about what the future holds for our city’s greenery.
