If you are non-partisan also known as independent please read.
A message to independent (nonpartisan) voters: if you still plan to request a vote-by-mail ballot, plan to vote early in-person, or plan to vote on Primary Election Day on May 12th, you must request a Democratic Primary Election ballot in order to vote for all non-partisan races AND all Democratic (partisan) candidates.
Currently, all independent voters can vote only in non-partisan races such as the Nebraska Legislature, State Board of Education, Board of Regents, school boards, natural resource districts, public power districts, community colleges, Learning Community Council (Douglas and Sarpy County), and Metropolitan Utilities District (Douglas County).
By requesting a Democratic Primary Election ballot, you can vote in the races above AND vote for all Democratic candidates running for the US Senate, House of Representatives, statewide (governor, attorney general, and secretary of state), and county races (sheriff, county attorney, treasurer, public defender, and others).
The Nebraska Democratic Party will always welcome independent voters to vote for Democrats at the federal, state, and county levels (referred to as an open primary). By contrast, the Nebraska Republican Party only allows independents to vote for federal candidates (no state or county candidates).
Request your Democratic Primary Election ballot when requesting your vote-by-mail ballot, voting early in-person, or if you plan to vote on Primary Election Day on May 12th. Feel free to share far and wide to all our independent voters in our state.
