"One of my summer school students disclosed that his family didn't have enough money to buy groceries and that he wouldn't be able to eat dinner that night. I helped the cafeteria workers pack him a second lunch and some snacks to eat that night and passed along the location and times for the student to get food from the Backpacks United program through his school and United Way. Thanks to generous community support, this student was able to eat that day and discover an easy and accessible source for continuing help so that he could focus on his studies and not on the empty pantry at home." unitedwaypc.org/backpacks-united #liveunited

That's a wrap—and a well-deserved lunch! We can't thank our tax prep volunteers enough for making the VITA program happen this year. They powered through and filed 1,165 returns, helping more than 620 residents and securing the return of $731,482 to taxpayers to infuse back into our Northwest Indiana economy.

Remember when our community helped raise funds to feed senior citizens with a new walk-in refrigerator for VNA of NWI Meals on Wheels? Look at this gorgeous result! ❤ Thanks to your generosity, 300+ seniors in our community will continue to have daily nutritious meals.

As Pines Village celebrates its 38th year of operation, we cannot help but reflect on how many great friends we've made over the years. Too many to name... but here is a recent example of our amazing community in Valpo... Pines Village is honored to be the meal provider for VNA of NWI's Meals on Wheels program. Demand for the program has grown exponentially over the years. In order to meet the demand, we needed an additional walk-in cooler. This is where our great friends including Don Quijote Restaurante and Imports and United Way of Porter County worked to raise funds for the walk-in cooler. Local artist Doris Myers donated a beautiful painting to us, which we chose to wrap the cooler. Aran Kessler Photo Imaging photographed Doris's painting for us, and the team at Digital Graphic Solutions LLC created and installed the wrap. Job well done, everyone! Now we can continue serving the aging community. We are grateful for all the great paths that have been crossed, residents served, friendships built, projects completed. Onward and upward for the next 38! 🎉

Maddie is seen here at the Serve Indiana Awards for Excellence Ceremony with Mark Zimmerman. He served four terms with her program! WOW, what a testament to great a program and a member's commitment to service!!! #AmeriStory #ServeINAmbassador
