Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) - Porter Township School Corporation

You can find the updated Return to Learn Plan at https://www.ptsc.k12.in.us/student-health/covid-19/. School will start on August 12, 2020! Please be reminded there is a delayed start every Wednesday (which is our first day!) and bus transportation runs slow the first couple of weeks, especially with construction!

And, here's a great opportunity:
Thursday, Aug 13th 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Church of the Four Seasons has teamed up with NWI Food Bank to host a mobile food distribution event on August 13 from 1-3 p.m. in the church parking lot. The church is located at 9100 E. 109th in Winfield.

Fresh perishable items and dry goods will be offered free of charge. All items will be pre-boxed and pre-bagged. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 400 households while supplies last for those in need of food assistance.

This will be a drive-thru distribution. Participants are urged to stay in the vehicle and pop open the trunk to receive items. An area will be available to load items if the truck does not open.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) - Porter Township School Corporation

Today the Porter County Health Department released an FAQ about returning to school. Here are some things you might wish to know:

1. The first day of school is still August 12, 2020 for PTSC. This is unchanged.
2. Following the new PCHD metrics, we will still open using parent choice as planned with a traditional pathway (in-person 5 days per week) and an eLearning pathway. This is unchanged.
3. The new metrics use a 7 day rolling average for positivity ratings for Porter County. Our positivity rating today is 5.8% which allows us to open with in-person instruction. Porter Township currently has 3 active COVID cases.
4. You can find the FAQ here: https://www.porterco.org/1598/Coronavirus-COVID-19-Updates

Watch your email tomorrow (or https://www.ptsc.k12.in.us/student-health/covid-19/) for our updated plan that captures the PCHD metrics along with some other minor revisions. We are working fast and furious to incorporate what we have received along with some updates from the Indiana State Department of Health!

Social Distancing

Wearing masks, washing our hands with soap for 20 seconds, and social distancing are key ways we can reduce the spread of COVID-19. Paying attention to this when we are around other people and staying 6 feet apart helps us not be a direct contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes) which is important if that person turns out to be COVID positive.

Road construction update: projecting an end of August completion. We have asked for them to try and have Hwy 2 and 500 done by August 12. They will try, but it is dependent on the weather. We will hope for great weather to help the crews!

Indiana Hand Washing Video

If you're like me, washing hands isn't a new idea. But have you ever timed how long 20 seconds is while you are washing? Turns out I needed to scrub a bit longer! Here's a great video to help us and our kids as we all can use reminders on this core practice to keep us healthy!

Mask Up Hoosier Kids

As we approach the start of school, we will be adding resources you can use with your kids, especially as we prepare for in-person learning. If you have not started practicing wearing a mask with your kids, now is a great time to start. Make sure to find a mask that your child likes and is comfortable for your child. This video, created by the state of Indiana, may also help.
