This sweet young lady came to visit us yesterday. Thank you Carlyle for being so generous & caring.

Yesterday – on Giving Tuesday – we met Miss Carlyle Freeman who came into City Hall with $27 she had raised in a craft fair. She added $3 of her own money to purchase $30 in tokens for the V-Line to give to others needing rides in Valparaiso. Carlyle Is an 8-year-old third grader at Cooks Corner Elementary. Her generosity and care for the community is inspiring and we wanted to share it today. She is pictured with Clerk Treasurer Holly Taylor.

This week Mayor Murphy and Clerk-Treasurer Holly Taylor presented the 2022 budget, a fiscally conservative and balanced budget that continues to put safety, quality of life and quality services at the top of the priority list, while also reducing the tax rate from last year. City Council has approved the budget. For more Information, check out this graphic and visit Valpo.us.

Valparaiso awards $300,000 in coronavirus relief grants to 50 businesses

These grants were awarded with Federal funds, with a small portion coming from our RDC. Proud of Valpo for being fiscally responsible, and for being able to assist these businesses in receiving their grants.

Valparaiso awarded $300,000 in grants to 50 businesses to help them keep the lights on and workers on the payroll during the coronavirus pandemic.

They're back at it! The Mayor's Youth Council met this past weekend for a retreat, meeting department heads and learning more about city government -- as we learned from them.

Congratulations to the 7 newly promoted members of the Valparaiso Fire Department who were pinned at a special ceremony at City Hall. Pictured are: Valparaiso Fire Chief Chad Dutz, Lieutenant Jon Parkhouse, Lieutenant Stephanie McGuire, Lieutenant Danny Dever, Captain Mike Brettin, State Senator Ed Charbonneau, Captain Clint Gorball, Captain Scott Stafford and Battalion Chief Jack Bryan Jr.
Valparaiso is very fortunate to have such an extraordinary Fire Department, in the top 20% nationwide for departments their size and one of just 12 fire departments in Indiana to earn a Class 2 rating by the National Insurance Service Office.

It's the First Day of school for the Valparaiso Community Schools. As a reminder, school zones have a reduced speed limit. Watch for kids entering and exiting school buses. Do not drive around a stopped school bus and do not go through when red flashing stop signs are extended. Law states that both sides of the road must stop when a school bus has their red flashers and stop signs out. We wish our students, teachers and staff a great start to the school year.
