Hampton County Sheriff’s Office invites our community to join us for a Candlelight Vigil in observance of the National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims.

Sunday, September 27 at 6:00 PM
The Gazebo | Hampton, SC

This observance provides an opportunity for families, friends, and members of our community to come together to honor and remember those whose lives were lost to violence. Through the lighting of candles and the sharing of their names and memories, we pause to recognize that every life mattered and every loss continues to be felt.

We especially extend our hearts to the families whose lives have been forever changed by the loss of a loved one. We hope this gathering serves as a reminder that their loved ones are remembered and that our community continues to stand beside them.

Families who would like to have a loved one recognized during the vigil may submit their information through hamptoncountysheriff.org.

We invite our community to join us as we remember, honor, and stand together for this national day of remembrance.

⚠️ TRAFFIC ADVISORY | FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL ⚠️

Tomorrow marks the first day of school for students of Hampton County School District. HCSO would like to remind motorists to anticipate increased traffic throughout Hampton County, particularly in and around all school zones during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

With students, parents, school buses, and staff returning to the roadways, motorists should expect heavier-than-usual traffic near schools throughout the county and are encouraged to allow additional travel time.

Motorists traveling along Highway 601 should be especially mindful of increased traffic in that area. Highway 601 is now home to two of our schools, including the new Hampton County High School.

Because this will be the first full school day with traffic entering and exiting the new high school campus, we ask everyone traveling through the area to please “be patient” and allow extra time to reach your destination. Traffic patterns may take some time to adjust as students, parents, staff, and motorists become familiar with the new school location and the flow of traffic.

Motorists should also expect an increased law enforcement presence throughout school zones across Hampton County, with particular attention along Highway 601. Officers will be present to assist with traffic flow and, most importantly, to help ensure the safety of our students, school staff, parents, and motorists.

Please slow down, remain alert, watch for school buses and pedestrians, and follow the directions of law enforcement officers assisting with traffic.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work together to make the first day of school a safe and successful one at every school throughout Hampton County as we welcome back all students, staff and faculties.

Hampton County Sheriff’s Office joins our law enforcement family and community in mourning the passing of retired Detective Kent Mixson.

Detective Mixson devoted more than two decades of his life to law enforcement before he retired in 2012. He served the citizens of Hampton County with dedication through the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, Hampton Police Department, and Estill Police Department.

Sheriff Russell and the entire HCSO family extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to our HCSO Deputy Chris Mixson on the loss of his father, and to the entire Mixson family during this difficult time.

We are grateful for Detective Mixson’s many years of dedicated service to our community and the legacy of service he leaves behind.

This week, Hampton County Sheriff’s Office hosted multi-agency Active Shooter Response Training at the former Hampton County High School and the Hampton County Courthouse.

The training was conducted by instructors with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and brought together law enforcement officers from multiple agencies to participate in realistic training exercises designed to strengthen preparedness, response, communication, and coordination during a critical incident.

Sheriff Russell understands that preparation is an important part of protecting the citizens we serve. While we hope our officers never have to respond to an incident of this nature, we must be prepared if that day ever comes.

HCSO extends our appreciation to SLED for providing this important training and to each of our law enforcement partners who participated.
