Into Black and White,
The California Redwoods are amazing - the rain forest is dark, green, humid, and mysterious! An iphone black and white alters the whole sense of space and place.

Meerkat Moment,
Haven’t posted in a bit - so I opened up Lightroom, closed my eyes, scrolled and clicked on a random photo. I ended up at the Santa Barbara Zoo way back in 2017. We scored a great day with overcast skies and super colors. Fun Stuff!

A pair of Slender-tailed Meerkats in a typical meerkat pose in their Santa Barbara Zoo enclosure. These little guys used to be little known, but thanks to nature shows like The Meerkat Diaries, they have become well loved. They live throughout south eastern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, and Angola; and chirrup, trill, growl, or bark, depending on the circumstances.

Granite Sentinels,
The weathered and ragged granite of the Alabama Hills seems very different from the smooth, light gray, and polished granite of the High Sierra - but it is the same, the difference is time.

Sometimes it pays to drive up a wash and see what happens. There are hidden gems throughout the desert. Not a bad place to spend a night.

Believe it or not - it’s May 1st and there is a Poppy super bloom happening along highway 138 and around the Poppy Reserve! The grass has dried and a rain caused second bloom has popped. From west of Nenach to east of the Reserve - well worth a visit. Not super photogenic, but a great opportunity to take an umbrella for some shaded closeups! Acres and acres of gold!

First dark - stars, Orion, and the Boot Arch. Was a mighty fine evening.

The iPhone night mode is pretty nuts. This is hand held for 10 seconds, pure tech magic.
