Today, we honor a pivotal moment in American history: On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans learned of their freedom.

161 years later, the Juneteenth holiday serves as a crucial reminder—not just of our history—but of how far we have left to go to ensure that everyone has access to good nutrition and the resources they need to thrive.

We also celebrate the incredible contributions of Black leaders, volunteers, and advocates across our service area to advancing this mission. 🧡

Our branch locations will be closed today, in observance of the holiday. We’ll reopen on Monday, June 22.

April’s children are her pride and joy.

Her youngest just turned 18. And her face lights up as she talks about her son: a lineman in the Airforce who recently graduated from tech school.

But the road she took to help get him there wasn’t easy.

April moved to Page County with her husband and 5 kids 8 years ago. Shortly after, her husband left. Then, the pandemic hit. Her family has been struggling to recover ever since.

She says that Page One of Page County, a food pantry partner of the Food Bank, has helped “more than you can even know.”

Her favorite item to receive there is deer meat, though it’s seasonal. Her children enjoy the cereal, since it’s something that they rarely purchase on their own. And peanut butter, because it’s delicious.

Despite the challenges she's faced, April remains positive and grateful for the assistance she receives.

“It's a blessing to be able to just have that. It's a blessing to be able to come here and get the food that we are able to get.”

When we say we care about food waste, we mean it. And we’ve got numbers to back it up.

In fiscal year 2025, we saved more than 11.5 million pounds of wholesome food from the waste stream through our Retail Store Donation Program.

That’s roughly 10 million meals that would have gone to waste if our retail store donation program partners hadn’t intervened. Wow!

Do you have excess, nonperishable food items in your pantry? We’re always accepting food donations. Help make this planet a more sustainable, more nourished place to live. 🌎

“It’s really difficult to put into words the difference [the Knights of Columbus] make to our quality of life,” Ruby Lee says.

“We get fruits, vegetables, milk, and eggs. Those are all things that are important to us that we cannot afford to buy.”

Ruby Lee and her husband both used to work on ‘The Hill’ in Washington.

But now, at age 66, there are days Ruby Lee feels abandoned by the government she used to work for.

Ruby Lee and her husband each have several severe health conditions. These setbacks “have completely wiped us out,” she explains.

The couple receives $24 each month through SNAP, and after rent, storage fees, and the care of their service dog, Bella, there’s not much left for groceries.

It’s thanks to the Knights of Columbus, a mobile food delivery service, that Ruby Lee and her husband have access to nutritious food.

“If it wasn’t for the Knights of Columbus, we wouldn’t be able to exist,” she says. “I am grateful for places like the Knights of Columbus. They give us hope.”

💸Food or bills? More people than ever are struggling to afford basic needs.

According to Urban Institute’s 2025 Well-Being and Basic Needs Survey:

📍 Nearly 1 in 4 adults ages 18 and older reported experiencing household food insecurity in the last 12 months.

📍More than 1 in 3 working-age adults with family incomes between 200 and 400 percent of the federal poverty rate reported that they did not have enough food in 2025.

Hunger is unacceptable, which is why the work of our amazing pantry and program partners is more important than ever before. 🍎

Hearl was born and raised in Buckingham County and now lives just outside of Columbia. He has visited the Mobile Food Pantry for over 10 years.

“I learned about this pantry through my church,” he says. “And I’m happy I can come here for help with my groceries. I can’t believe what we pay for potatoes now in the grocery store. I love getting fruit and vegetables. I still go to the grocery store for my meats when I can afford it.”

Hearl remains appreciative for the help: “That’s how I was raised,” he says.

“And so, I am grateful for what I receive at the Mobile Food Pantry.”

❣️ You did it!

This year’s food drive was a huge success. And we couldn’t have done it without your support—or the hard work of the letter carriers who made this event possible.

You helped raise a whopping 120,692 pounds of food and $6,401 in funds, which translates to 119,780 meals! This goes a long way in helping to keep pantry shelves stocked during the summer. THANK YOU! 🥫

We are so grateful to the volunteers who helped sort donations and to the National Association of Letter Carriers for organizing this annual drive.

Thank you for making sure that everyone has enough to eat. 🧡
