MYTH OR FACT? Let’s Talk Foster Care 💙

There are so many assumptions about foster care that stop incredible people from even asking questions.

🚫 “You have to be married.”
🚫 “You have to own your home.”
🚫 “You can’t choose who or when you foster.”
🚫 “You have to already have children.”

✨ Myth.

The truth? Foster care looks different for every family, and there are many ways to make a difference. Some families foster infants, teens, or sibling groups. Some provide short-term or respite care to support other foster families. Some step in during crisis. All of it matters.

You don’t have to be “perfect.” You simply have to be willing to learn, love, and show up.

Maybe you’ve wondered, Could we do this? or What does foster care actually look like? Foster care awareness starts with asking questions and learning the facts.

This Foster Care Awareness Month, we’d love to hear:
💬 What myth about foster care have you heard?
💙 Or what would you want to know before saying “yes”?

Because sometimes changing a child’s story starts with changing what we think we know.

Did you know that many children entering foster care in Virginia are first placed with relatives or close family friends? 💛

This is called kinship care and it helps children stay connected to familiar people, schools, culture, and community during one of the hardest moments of their lives.

But many kinship caregivers step in unexpectedly with little preparation or support. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, neighbors, and family friends often say “yes” overnight because they love a child and want to keep them safe.

At Foster Love Ministries, we believe these families deserve support too.

Through prevention efforts, community partnerships, CarePortal, and practical resources, we come alongside caregivers who are opening their homes and hearts to vulnerable children right here in our community.

Because sometimes the biggest act of love is simply saying:
“You won’t do this alone.” ❤️

May is Foster Care Awareness Month 💙

Not everyone is called to foster or adopt…
but everyone can do something.

There are children and families in our own community who need support
and sometimes, it’s the smallest acts that make the biggest difference.

You can:
💛 Foster
💛 Adopt
💛 Mentor
💛 Pray
💛 Educate
💛 Bring a meal
💛 Donate
💛 Tutor
💛 Babysit
💛 Offer respite

Every role matters. Every act counts.

At Foster Love Ministries, we believe in supporting children and families at every point in the journey—
from prevention, to foster care, to reunification and beyond.

Because when a community shows up…
families are strengthened, and lives are changed.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month 💙

And this month holds all of it
the beauty, the brokenness, and the incredible opportunity to show up.

It’s about the children entering care…
the families saying yes to fostering and adoption…
the biological families working hard to stay together…
and a community that has the power to step in at every point along the way.

Because here’s the truth:

👉 Some children need safe, loving foster homes
👉 Some families need support to reunify and heal
👉 And some just need a little help before things reach a crisis

It all matters.

At Foster Love Ministries, we see this every day through CarePortal
that when a community responds, lives are changed:

✨ A foster family feels supported and not alone
✨ A biological parent gets the help they need to keep going
✨ A kinship caregiver is equipped to say “yes”
✨ A child experiences stability, dignity, and love

Sometimes it’s a bed.
Sometimes it’s a bill.
Sometimes it’s simply showing up and saying, you’re not in this alone.

And those small acts?
They add up to something really big.

This month, we invite you into the full picture:

💛 Support foster and adoptive families
💛 Encourage and uplift biological families
💛 Step in early to help prevent crisis when possible
💛 Get involved through CarePortal to meet real, local needs
💛 Pray, give, share, and show up

Because this isn’t just about awareness
it’s about action.

And when a community comes together…
families are strengthened, children are supported,
and stories begin to change.

This is what it looks like to love your neighbor.

🌟 November is National Adoption Month 🌟

Across the country, thousands of children in foster care are waiting—waiting for connection, for commitment, for a place to call home forever. Many of these children are older youth, siblings who need to stay together, and kids who have shown incredible strength through difficult circumstances.

This month, we honor their resilience and raise awareness about the urgent need for adoptive families. If you’ve ever considered opening your heart and home to a child or teen in foster care, now is the perfect time to learn more.

💙 Adoption changes lives.
💙 You can be part of that change.
