Today we remember FF Jonathan Croom, Truck 7, and Lt. Charles “Chip” McCarthy, Rescue 1, lost 17 years ago on August 24, 2009. Both gave everything answering the call.

“Ut Vivant Alii” - So Others May Live. We carry that with us every shift.

Rest easy, brothers. You are not forgotten.

Meet FF/EMT-B Keghan Kelly!

Prior to Firefighting FF Kelly worked in construction and Public Works. With 12 years total fire service experience between Career and Volunteer, Keghan has spent 4 years career here with us at CFD and 4 years prior at Fishers FD! When asked what he enjoys most about working here in Canandaigua he said “Helping the community and others passing through The Chosen Spot. Growing up around Canandaigua makes it special for me to work here now.” One thing he takes pride in is answering the call every time the alarm goes off and giving 100% on scene at every incident. Of the many memories he has throughout his career the thing that stands out the most is learning the ins and outs of our unique community and working alongside some of the best firefighters he knows! Outside of work you can find FF Kelly spending time with his family on Canandaigua Lake in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter!

Another unfortunate departure. Today we congratulate Firefighter Jake Bement on his start with the North Greece Fire District. NGFD is getting an exceptional fireman, friend, and leader! Jake has been a career fireman with CFD for over four years, began as a Canandaigua volunteer in 2009, was our municipal training officer, union president, and an exceptional fireman on A Shift. Best of luck, Jake!

Yesterday afternoon, Engine-212 Truck-281 responded to a chicken coop fire on Gorham Street. Upon arrival of Engine-212, it was discovered that the fire had extended to an adjacent building. Two lines were placed in operation and Truck-281 searched the adjacent building.
