Manufacturers Standardization Society Non-Profit Technical Association Officially founded in 1924, the Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS) of the Valve and Fittings Industry is a non-profit technical association organized for development and improvement of industry, national and international codes and standards for: Valves, Valve Actuators, Valve Modification, Pipe Fittingsm, Pipe Hangers, Pipe Supports, Flanges, Associated Seals.

Mission: Standards organizations in which MSS currently participates include, but are not limited to, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM), American Petroleum Institute (API), American Waterworks Association (AWWA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). At the international level, MSS representatives have served as leaders in U.S. delegations in many of the meetings of ISO working groups, subcommittees, and main committees addressing applicable areas of interest.

MSS is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of the MSS/Tom Hannafin Scholarship Awards! The President of MSS, along with the Membership Committee Chairman, recently announced the six awardees. Given the current pandemic environment the MSS Directors approved six scholarship awardees this year, noting the difficult year for students and their desire to help aspiring engineers with these much-needed cash awards. The MSS member companies that are affiliated with the 2020 awardees include American Flow Control (American Cast Iron Pipe Company), Carpenter & Paterson, DSS Valves, Flowserve Corporation, and Metso Flow Control. The MSS Board of Directors was impressed with the high caliber of all the scholarship applicants and wishes them well in their pursuits. The revised SP-94 has served as an industry norm for over 37 years; providing methods and acceptance standards for ultrasonic examination of austenitic, ferritic, and martensitic steel castings and forgings for valves, flanges, fittings, and other piping components. The revised SP-144 has served the industry for over 5 years and first became ANSI-approved in 2015; covering construction requirements for steel and alloy valves having pressure-seal bonnets in the size range of NPS 2 (DN 50) through NPS 50 (DN 1250) and Pressure Classes 600, 900, 1500, 2500, and 4500. MSS announces the publication of revised SP-106-2019, Cast Copper Alloy Flanges and Flanged Fittings: Class 125, 150, and 300! SP-106 has served as an industry standard for over 29 years; covering requirements for cast copper alloy flanges and flanged fittings having dimensions, ratings, and materials not included in the ASME B16.24 standard. Specifically, this Standard Practice includes solder joint flanges for rating Class 125 and Class 150, threaded flanges and blind flanges for rating Class 150 and Class 300, and flanged fittings for rating Class 150. The standard was developed and is maintained under the consensus of Technical Committee 201, Non-Ferrous Fittings and Flanges.
