The library is closed Thursdays, Sundays and major holidays. The Vienna Public Library originated in 1894 to help the new Vienna High School meet state requirements. After the library was destroyed by fire in 1908, Mrs. May Chapman obtained a donation from Andrew Carnegie for a new library building. The current building

was built in 1910 at a cost of $6323. In 1995 the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1999, 2004, and 2009 the Library was renovated using funds from an Illinois State Library Live and Learn Construction Grant. The City of Vienna renovated the basement area for use as a community meeting room. We are pleased with our renovations and welcome you to share our pride!
