Being a Commissioner also includes helping veterans, mapping out solid waste plans, ensuring quality mental health care is available, and maintaining county buildings.

There are so many programs, businesses, employees, and residents that a commissioner works with. A commissioner must listen to the taxpayers and their concerns, be empathetic, and be willing to work to resolve those concerns.

Another responsibility of being a commissioner is maintaining roads, bridges, and ditches throughout the county.

Knox County is lucky to have an engineer on staff to lead the highway department. His experience and the focused pavement preservation programming that has been incorporated in the last decade allows for roads to last longer increasing the overall lifespan of the roadway.

Also part of the process is to maintain ditches along the roadways and clipping the edges of the road. This is necessary to allow water to run off roadways and in to the ditches. Standing water along the road edge is unsafe for the motoring public as well as it can seep into the pavement which could cause the pavement to crack apart creating potholes.

I spent 20 years with the Indiana Department of Transportation and learned how each department operates as well as how maintenance of roadways was determined, snow plowing of roads, traffic signals, traffic signs, pavement markings, testing of materials, planning of future projects, speaking with property and business owners affected by road projects, elected officials, and first responders. The most exciting thing was the build and opening of I-69!

Most of all I learned, most of the time people just want to be heard, to be respected, and to find a resolution to their concern. And that is how I have helped so many over the years. Listening and helping find a resolution.

Part of being a County Commissioner is ensuring that the residents of your county have access to quality healthcare including the hospital and behavioral healthcare. This is no easy task as the cost for care continues to rise rapidly.

How can we help?

As we interview and bring new providers to our community, we need to make sure our Community looks welcoming and a place they want to live and raise their families.

Continually search for grants to help fund programming and salaries to allow us to provide the best care possible.

Work with health care leaders to ensure we are providing the services needed by our community.

And most importantly, listen to our community and address any concerns that may arise.

Knox County is a great place, let's make sure we're doing all we can to showcase our county so that we can win grants, potential new businesses, new educators, new providers!

How can we attract new businesses and increase affordable housing?

We must work as a with all elected officials and organizations to have locations!

What do I mean by that? We need to work with our economic development organizations to have land and buildings ready to go for potential new businesses. Whether they are small or large, some new businesses may want to buy or lease an existing structure, and some will want to build new. Are we prepared? We are lucky to have the Knox County Indiana Economic Development team that have spots available in the Industrial Park on US 41 south of Vincennes. There is also availability at the Industrial Park in Bicknell! Knox County has four-lane highways in all directions, within 30 minutes of two major interstates, access to railways, and only 90 minutes from a port on the Ohio River.

How do we help increase affordable housing? We have many great builders in Knox County who can help us, but, if we are wanting to build new, where will that be? We can help by placing the necessary infrastructure to potential new neighborhoods.

How do we pay for these things without increasing taxes? As government we should be continuously looking for grants from both State and Federal agencies. We should also be including funding for these types of projects in our annual budget.

If we take the time today to think about the future, we can plan for projects like these. Working together, our local elected leaders will make a difference and help Knox County be the shining jewel of Southwest Indiana!

The most asked question I've heard while campaigning is "Why do you want to be a Commissioner?"

Why do I want to be a Commissioner? I want to help our community thrive and grow! I want generation after generation to work and live here and be proud of Knox County!

How can we do this?

People say jobs are needed here, but when you look, Knox County's unemployment rate is incredibly low, averaging at 3%. Knox County's population has declined most every year since the early 90s and in 2023 Knox County's labor force total was 17,939 with only 535 not employed that were eligible to work. (This information is from the website Indiana IN Depth Profile, maintained by Indiana University.)

In order to grow Knox County's businesses and industry we must also grow our . We must make Knox County be the most attractive place for new businesses to choose to locate and the most attractive place for individuals and families to relocate. We need to work together, all city and county officials, working hand in hand to improve our cities, towns, and county.

We must improve our roads, increase our available affordable housing, recruit the best medical providers, keep our parks top notch with quality equipment, and collaborate with law enforcement to ensure our county is safe so that Knox County is THE place to live, work, and own a business.

My work experience and ability to communicate and listen, makes me the best candidate to be successful in this mission.
