To say I am a proud father would be an understatement.

As I sat, watched, and listened last night, I was overwhelmed thinking about nine young ladies who stepped outside their comfort zones to represent the great county we know, love, and call home.

We should all be proud of these young women, their accomplishments, and the bright futures that lie ahead of them. They have already made a positive impact on so many young lives, serving as role models for the next generation.

Congratulations to each of you. Your courage, character, and dedication have made your families and our community incredibly proud.

CASA Spaghetti Benefit โ€“ A โ€œThank Youโ€ from Rose Holdren

We want to express our deep gratitude to everyone who supported the spaghetti fundraiser for the children of CASA, making it a truly successful event! We want to give a very special thank you to Post Commander Bill Mangus and the members of VFW Post #4464 for donating the initial $500 to purchase all supplies and securing an additional $200 from Walmart to purchase the spaghetti, hamburger, and garlic bread. Without this very generous donation, we wouldnโ€™t have been able to get the ball rolling on this fundraising event. We greatly appreciate them.

We also want to thank our wonderful cooks, Sally Stapleton for donating a significant amount of time to make her amazing spaghetti sauce, and Terri Jividen for her generous donation of the beautiful, delicious desserts. Thanks to the Birchfield family and Lori Click for starting early that morning to prepare the noodles at Elizabeth Chapel, and thank you to EC for allowing us to use their facility!

We are forever grateful to each and every volunteer for donating an entire day to help set up, serve, and clean up! We had a remarkable kitchen staff, the Beaver family, that kept things running smoothly. Several great friends helped serve, including Madison, Gracie, and Annaleise, and my wonderful siblings, Jake, Josy, and Micah. Thank you to our elected officials, Judge Margaret Evans, Sheriff Matt Champlin, Recorder Jeff Halley, Commissioner Tony Hughes, and Auditor Steve McGhee, for their special support of this event. Stephanie Dixon was so generous to donate her time to collect donations from all of our wonderful and greatly appreciated supporters of this event.

We had so many people in the community come and support this event, making it truly successful. We appreciate each and every one of you. We appreciate the women of CASA for having a presence and providing information to everyone. We appreciate Lora and Julia of the Ariel Opera House, for their time and for allowing us to use the beautiful facility.

Many of you werenโ€™t able to come but sent very generous donations. We are truly grateful to all and thankful the Lord blessed this day, allowing it to run seamlessly and successfully. We are very grateful to everyone who could make it out and enjoy the fellowship with one another.

We also want to thank our church family, many friends in the community, and our family for the generous support and prayers for this event. We had many behind-the-scenes workers and many special private donors. We know the Lord will truly bless you all.

We did have leftovers and were able to share them with the on-duty officers of the Gallia County Sheriffโ€™s Office and Gallipolis Police Department. The remaining leftovers went to the children at the Childrenโ€™s Center of Ohio.

Over $4,500 was raised for CASA, and several individuals showed interest in becoming CASA volunteers. This is a tremendous, unexpected amount, and we are excited to see how the children of CASA will benefit from your love, support, and generosity. Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts, to each and every one of you who took part in making this fundraiser a true success!

Two ribbon cuttings and the chance to spend time with Gallia County royaltyโ€”it was a very good day!

The new airport terminal is outstanding. A big congratulations to our county commissioners, past and present, whose vision and dedication made this project a reality.

The future of the Gallia County Fair is incredibly bright. Yesterday, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new livestock building (and it is massive!) and broke ground on the new multipurpose event center. Countless people have played a role in bringing these projects to life, and the Gallia County Fair Board deserves special recognition for seeing this vision through.

Lastly, we have a great group of young ladies vying for the opportunity to represent our wonderful county over the coming year. Please join me in wishing each of them the very best!

Celebrating Americaโ€™s 250th year of Independence with PRs in the Rotary Mile, the parade, and patriotic snow cones. We are truly a blessed nation and people!

This is such a great opportunity to learn an important life skill. Iโ€™m so grateful that Sally has taught my kids how to sewโ€”and even more special that they can now help pass that skill on to others!

The Hatfield & McCoy 5K and Half Marathon are in the books! (Yes, that is Devil Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy at the finish line!)

The kids all set new personal bests and had outstanding races. Rose and Jake tackled the half marathon (13.1 miles), while Josy, Micah, and I ran the 5K (3.1 miles).

Proud dad moment: 97 runners completed the half marathon, and Jake finished 3rd overall among the men while Rose finished 3rd overall among the women. They crossed the finish line together in 2:00:38, averaging an impressive 9:13 per mile.

Josy once again left me in the dust during the final stretch, finishing in 33:07. Both she and I shaved about six minutes off our previous 5K times. Micah also ran a personal best, finishing in 37:50. To top it off, both Micah and Josy won their respective age groups.

To say I am proud would be an understatement.

It was truly a great weekend of running and an even better weekend spending time with our family in West Virginia.
