**Tuesday Tip**

Push-ups are a great exercise to help strengthen:
💪 the chest
💪shoulders
💪 triceps
as well as work the core, back and legs.

You can do them anywhere and there are different ways to do them...
1. Military push-up (plank position)
2. On your knees
3. On an incline (bench, chair, or table)

Why is this important in your everyday life?
🤜If you have a fall, you will be able to push yourself back up.
🤜You will be able to get on the floor and play with your grandchildren, and get back up!

👉 Start simple. Try to increase quantity and if you start with modified, have a goal to get to the next stage!

🤜Join us on our May monthly push up challenge. Post a picture or video in comments and we will randomly pick a winner to get an Empowerment! Wellness t-shirt!!

Your EmpowerFIT tip of the day!

🚶‍♀️Often people with Parkinson’s disease have impaired posture and balance which often leads to gait difficulties and falls.
🚶‍♀️A great way to help with these issues is by using poles to have better posture. This will help increase confidence and decrease the chances of falls.
🚶‍♀️The poles also increase arm swing and steps, helping to create a more natural gait pattern. 👣

🚶‍♀️If you are someone living with Parkinson’s disease, come check out our 4 week Online Urabn Poling class, not only to gain strength but to build confidence as well!

**Message is for details! $50 off until May 15th and receive a pair of Activator poles ($110 value!)

Building Friendships....

👭 During this time of uncertainty, we are pulled away from our tribe where friendships that started in the gym are now virtual or through text/email. This can cause stress and anxiety being away from the people that understand the most!

👭 Living with Parkinson's disease, stress and anxiety can make the symptoms of the disease worse. Now is just as important as ever to reach out to the friends made in the gym. Emotional health is just as important as physical health.

👭 If you know someone living with Parkinson's disease, reach out and make sure they are ok! If they need a place to make new bonds and exercise, please contact us to join our virtual classes!

Parkinson's Awareness Month!!

Meet Rick!

Not only is he fighting Parkinson's disease, he is fighting cancer too! Before the coronavirus 🦠 took over and shut us down, he would show up and put 110% into his workouts. He has such a positive and fighting spirit, it becomes contagious!!

💪What is one obstacle that you had living with PD, that has improved since taking classes?

"My confidence in participating in social settings and large groups of people was adversely effected by my uncontrolled display of the Parkinson’s signs and symptoms. I was very self-conscious of the random tremor, the stiffness in my neck (Rigidity) , and the delay experienced in taking my first step (Bradykinesia)."

💪What was life like before joining classes?

"I was feeling somewhat isolated and having to face the challenges of this progressive and deteriorating disease with my wife and immediate family."

💪 What advice would you give to a new member?

"Relax and enjoy the camaraderie and synergy of a group that has similar experiences and symptoms. Take advantage of their lessons learned and different approaches of those who are also going through a similar quest to lessen the impact of Parkinson’s symptoms and associated side effects. Participation in this class gives you better physical conditioning and a better quality of life."

Parkinson’s Awareness Month!

Meet Tim!

👉🏼What is one obstacle that you had living with PD that has improved since taking classes?

“Rigidity was a major obstacle for me, limiting what I could do. The workouts and stretching have helped reduced my rigidity allowing me to live as normal life as I possibly can.”

👉🏼What was life like before joining classes?
“I was working out 3x/week on my own and in fair shape. Even working out on my own I was still declining in areas such as gait and posture.”

👉🏼What advice would you give a new member?
“Start working out early in your diagnosis and join a facility that specializes in Parkinson’s disease workouts! You have to push yourself to work out with intensity safely without causing injury.”

Meet Jay!

He is living with Parkinson’s disease but it doesn’t define him!

1. What was life like before joining classes? “Quality of life was on downward slide. The classes, coaching and social interaction has slowed the effects of the disease.”

2. What is one obstacle that you had living with PD that has improved since taking classes?
“My balance and gait were noticeably starting to deteriorate. The combination of Rock steady boxing and PWR! improved both of these challenges!”

3. What advice would you give to a new member?
“I have seen improvements not only in myself but also with my fellow parkies. There is no cure but there are ways to fight back! You can go quietly in the night or face PD head on. You decide...what do you have to lose?”

Important information for tomorrow’s event!

ATTENTION! Important information on tomorrow’s world record attempt! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

We know this adds a layer of complexity but we HAVE the numbers to break the record, we just need your help!

PLEASE SHARE AND RESHARE!

Welcome to the 5:LIVE world record attempt team! We are only a day away!

Tomorrow, April 11th, together, we can change the world!

Saturday is World Parkinson’s day and April is Parkinson’s awareness month. There are 1 million people in the US and 10 million people living worldwide with Parkinson’s, and unfortunately this population is rapidly growing.

Breaking a world record is never easy, Standards are always changing and strict but with a little up-front preparation, we can all make it happen and raise unprecedented awareness on the importance of staying active.

Here are the critical details:

5:LIVE Saturday April 11th, 2020 - Live stream on Youtube:

https://movement-revolution.com/5live

EVENT PREP: CRITICAL! (5:LIVE will tightly adhere to the schedule so please prepare ahead)
Please allow yourself plenty of time to set up and test your home workout area prior to the event start. Ensure that you have the following:

Device to watch and listen to the Youtube Live Stream while you participate in the workout (i.e. computer, laptop, iPad, etc - Test ahead to ensure you can connect to the link above).

Another device to record yourself with the stream in frame of your recording if possible (video camera, smartphone, etc.). If there is more than one person participating with you, make sure everyone is in view. You should be recording all the participants with the first device in view where the live stream is being shown.

Insider tip, a coffee mug can be a great holder of a smart phone with the camera up out of the mug. Remember to test it ahead of time to ensure you are all fully in the video frame with the streaming device.

You will need a sturdy and reliable chair to perform the main exercise (Sit-to-stand). Ensure you can safely sit down and stand up using the chair.

EVENT AGENDA: YouTube Live Stream Link

https://movement-revolution.com/5live

We will start promptly so don't be late!

11 AM EDT (10 AM CDT - 8 AM PDT - 15 GMT)
-Welcome
-Event & Team Introductions
-Home Exercise and World Record Attempt

Things to Note:
-Your submission for the World Record Attempt will attempt to break the world record for the “Most people performing a exercise online simultaneously.”

-We have chosen the sit-to-stand as the exercise to perform together.

-You will be prompted when to begin the sit-to-stand so that we are all performing this at the same time.

-You will need a sturdy and safe chair or other item that you can sit in and raise yourself to standing. This is the exercise that needs to be recorded so please take that into account when setting up your area. See Event Prep Section above for more details.

-You will need to record a video of yourself AND the streaming device (With audio so that the live stream prompt to coordinate the start of the sit-to-stand can be heard).

-After the event is over, please upload your video to: https://bit.ly/videosubmissionfor5live. We will then submit all the videos to Guinness for the record.

Have fun together! If we do this right, we will all be part of a world record and even more importantly, raise incredible awareness and inspiration for everyone to stay active during this difficult situation.

Thank you for working together to make a difference! If you have any questions, please email them to

[email protected]

I LOVE that you are getting your fighters outside! RSB coaches aren't doing much of that, and I believe it's a real loss for our boxers. Hiking uneven terrain is a real world challenge to balance and proprioception, and builds confidence. Fresh air and sunshine...what could be better than that. Social connections, something you can do with your family and friends. I'm so impressed. We are planning Jon's Boxing Grand Tour, and we want to come see you sometime!!
