Good morning Oceana family!

I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to inform you that Friday June 15, 2018 was my last day as the NAS Oceana Ombudsman, as my sailor and I are in the process to go to our next Command.

It was an absolute pleasure to provide support to everyone that needed it. Thank you so much for reaching out to me and trusting me.

Wishing everyone the very best in your future endeavors!

Very Respectfully,

Lianis Solla

Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month Awareness challenge/obstacle course.

Couple of points about this event:
-Registration is not required in advanced, same day is perfect.
-A waiver is required, and participants must be at least 18 years.
- Although this course incorporates the word "challenge" it does not require athleticism. To complete the course team work is encouraged, and jumping jacks are offered as an alternative for any obstacles a participant may want to avoid.

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic installations participate in security exercise

Navy installations within the continental United States will conduct Exercise Citadel Shield - Solid Curtain 2018 (CS-SC 18) Jan. 29 - Feb. 9.

Exercise CS-SC 18 is a two-part, linked anti-terrorism force protection exercise conducted by Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Commander, Navy Installations Command on all Navy installations in the continental U.S.

This annual exercise is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy Security Forces and ensure seamless interoperability among the commands, other services and agency partners.

Exercise CS-SC 18 is not in response to any specific threat but is a regularly scheduled exercise.

“Citadel Shield - Solid Curtain is a vital annual exercise that tests our ability to prepare for, deter and respond to unpredictable, dynamic threats,” said Rear Adm. Jack Scorby, the commander of the Navy’s Mid-Atlantic Region.

Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions within local communities and to normal installation operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around installations or delays in installation access. Area residents may also see or hear security activities associated with the exercise.

“During the exercise, there may be increased activity around our installations and possibly experience delays near the bases,” Scorby said. “Our installations have been working with local government agencies to avoid any unnecessary disruptions to traffic and services. I’d like to ask for the community’s understanding, cooperation and patience should the exercise affect your daily routine.”

I retired in 1993 and know things have changed. However, the OMBUDSMAN was always the solution when you had a problem you couldn't get addressed so here goes - Yesterday I went to the PSD at Oceana to get a new ID card. The air conditioning wasn't working and neither was the water fountain. I got there at about 8:10. Right after I got there they closed the walk-in line for the day. There were five stations but only three clerks. The clerks were laughing and joking with each other and openly gossiping about people, including customers as they left, and everybody there could hear them. Then the system went down at about 11:30. My understanding from all the complaints was that this is a fairly common occurrence and you just need to sit, wait and hope the system comes back up. Some people had been there two or three times and never gotten their ID cards. The rule in the office is that if you aren't sitting in the chair by their desk at 3:30 they throw you out. And you don't get included in the list for the morning, you have to start all over. It would seem to me that a better system could be set up. Please don't say appointments since even if you have an appointment if the system goes down you have to make another appt which further backlogs the system. Additionally, I am handicapped. There did not appear to be handicapped parking and the leaves that fell last fall were still piled up on the steps to the building, soaking wet, and I slipped and almost fell. I waited all day and finally went home and made an appt which is several weeks away so I'm praying I don't get sick before then. I don't know if the problems are due to budget cuts or lack of leadership. And since some people will think I'm just a cranky old woman - when we were all stuck in the hot office waiting with no food, nothing to drink, and getting perturbed, I ordered pizzas and cokes for everybody trying to make it a little easier. If this occurs every day than somebody in authority needs to address it. I asked who was in charge of the ID office and all they would tell me was the clerk who kept putting on the Disney movies.
Hello, my sailor will be arriving for C School soon and I wondered what the procedure is when he arrives. I will be driving him up there and want to know if he will have any free time to show me around the base in the first day or so before I make the long trip back home.
