TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TO DROP

The weather forecast has temperatures dropping well below freezing starting tonight through Thursday and Friday. To safeguard facilities and operations on JEBLCFS resident commands are requested to drip faucets, open cabinet doors where water pipes exist, and monitor buildings for water pipe breaks (if manned) to prevent facility damage. These measures can be used at home as well. Please act now to safe guard your operations and Navy facilities.

Below are tips to prevent frozen pipes in your facilities:

- Drip/Trickle at least one faucet on each water line in the building. If in
doubt, drip it. Water costs a lot less than the repairs associated with a
pipe rupture.

- Ensure all exterior doors are properly secured.

- Prop open all interior doors between rooms where water lines might be
present.

- Open interior cabinets where water lines might be present to allow warmer
air to circulate around the plumbing.

- If your operations enable, recommend that your staff walk through their
facilities each morning to confirm all conditions are normal.

The potential exists that we may also have to shift to "Split Base
Operations" in the event that the bridge ices over and becomes unsafe to
transit. That could happen as early as tonight or tomorrow morning. In the event that
happens, Gate 1 will be opened and transition to 24/7 operations until the
bridge is deemed safe for vehicle traffic. We will send out an AtHoc
notification if and when the base goes to Split Operations.
