Alexander Kerin Named Winner of the ATSIP TRF Best Data Visualization Award

Alexander Kerin has been selected as the winner of the ATSIP Traffic Records Forum (TRF) Best Data Visualization Award for his presentation, “Proactive Risk Assessment with New Innovative Visualizations.”

Kerin’s presentation highlighted StreetVision, a web-based application designed to help road safety officials and researchers identify where risk is emerging on roadways and within communities using telematics-derived behavioral analytics. The platform helps users identify areas of concern, determine where interventions may have the greatest impact, and evaluate how those interventions affect safety outcomes.

A distinguishing feature of StreetVision is its use of map-based visualizations at multiple geographic scales. Choropleth maps allow users to compare communities, roadway heatmaps help identify areas exhibiting risky behaviors, and high-resolution H3 hexagons provide the ability to examine risk at intersections, midblock locations, and along corridors.

StreetVision’s hex-based approach preserves greater spatial precision, allowing transportation safety professionals to examine where and when potentially risky behavior is occurring with greater specificity.

The ATSIP TRF Best Data Visualization Award recognizes excellence in using data visualization to communicate complex transportation information clearly and effectively.

Jessica Gleba Named Winner of the ATSIP TRF Best Practice Award

Dr. Gleba has been selected as the winner of the ATSIP Traffic Records Forum (TRF) Best Practice Award for her presentation, “Elimination of Stop Testing in the State of CT Division of Scientific Services: A Comprehensive Overview.”

Dr. Gleba’s presentation highlighted an important change in toxicology testing practice: the elimination of “stop testing,” an approach in which testing stops after a specified ethanol level is reached and drug testing is not performed. By moving to a more comprehensive toxicology testing program, the State of Connecticut Division of Scientific Services in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation is helping create a more complete picture of impaired driving and strengthening the data available to public safety stakeholders.

Since the full toxicology testing program began in October 2025, the laboratory has tested, on average, 20–25% more cases for full drug testing than would have otherwise been tested only for alcohol. In those cases, approximately 50% have also tested positive for drugs.

The Best Practice Award recognizes presentations that demonstrate practical impact, innovation in implementation, and clear evidence of effectiveness or improvement.
