Happy Sunday to our Facebook Followers! It’s been a pretty busy month for us, we even swapped Coast Guard Cutter Heron for Coast Guard Cutter Bluefin! The Coast Guard has implemented a program for the 87’ Patrol Boats to shift homeports every few years to facilitate a longer period of maintenance, or a dry dock, at the Coast Guard Yard. We brought our beloved Coast Guard Cutter Heron up the Chesapeake Bay and dropped her off to be worked on for a few months before she will be picked up by another crew. We then brought Coast Guard Cutter Bluefin back to her new home in Little Creek! The crew has been working extremely hard getting our new cutter ready to perform our missions, but here are a few pictures of when we picked her up in Baltimore!

Heron's crew had the privilege of releasing 14 turtles back to their home at sea this weekend! These turtles had been rehabilitated by the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island after being found with hypothermic temperatures from as far north as Cape Cod. Heron's crew released them offshore to warmer waters so they have a second chance at a life at sea.
