Great honor yesterday to give a 15-minute presentation to The Barnabas Group (TBG) of Orange County, CA on Olive Branch International (OBI) -- an organization with a 25-year track record of serving the international military community.

Here was my opening leading to OBI's WHY STATEMENT.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This morning, I can't think of a better way to start a presentation to a group dedicated to advancing the Kingdom than by starting with a 30-second Bible Study.

This 30-second Bible study goes like this...

In the 10th chapter of Acts, Peter ministered to an international military member named Cornelius and this RESULTED IN the birth of the Gentile church.

In the 27th chapter of Acts, Paul ministered to an international military member named Julius and this RESULTED IN Paul's life being spared and him continuing on to Rome to be Christ's witness to Caesar.

And finally, in the 7th chapter of Luke, Jesus of Nazareth ministered to an international military member in Capernaum and this RESULTED IN Jesus making the claim that he had "not found such great faith even in all of Israel.”

At Olive Branch International, our WHY statement is to minister to international military members just like Peter, Paul, and Jesus did in the New Testament.

We are convinced that when you focus on this specific harvest field that strategic Kingdom results occur just like they did 2,000 years ago for Peter, Paul, and Jesus.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Later in the presentation I shared with TBG how we accomplish our WHY statement.

For 25 years, we've been a Great Commandment organization that responds to invitations from foreign governments to be the "hands and feet of Christ" in response to the spiritual, psychological, moral, and, physical injuries associated with natural disasters, war and violence, and economic collapse.

Reports from Sierra Leone mudslides. We've been in contact with our Olive Branch International (OBI) hospital chaplain team in Freetown. Our team leadership on the ground reports that "the situation here is pathetic and sorrowful as thousands of mourners weep profusely" over the mass burial of bodies.

Three of our OBI chaplains and their families have been displaced by the mudslides in Sierra Leone.

For those unaware of the current situation in Sierra Leone, here's how NPR reported this current tragedy 12 hours ago.
----------------------------------------------------
Sierra Leone, a country that has been battered by Ebola, civil war and massive floods, suffered yet another tragedy this week. Government and international aid workers are racing the clock to find survivors after a mudslide struck capital city Freetown early Monday morning.

Some 600 people are still missing, and there are reports that some people are still alive, trapped in their homes underneath the mud.

At the same time, aid groups are trying to support roughly 9,000 people — who were injured, displaced, or found their lives disrupted by the devastation — and avert a potential public health crisis.
----------------------------------------------------

A little over 2 months ago (on this FB page), we acknowledged the 1-year anniversary of the END of the Ebola Virus Epidemic in Sierra Leone. Here was that FB posting to give you the context of the work that OBI's hospital chaplain team does in Sierra Leone...

//////////////////////////////////////////

1-year Ebola Anniversary tomorrow. June 9, 2016 is the day that the World Health Organization (WHO) DECLARED THE END of the Ebola Virus Epidemic in the last remaining West African nation.

This anniversary holds a special place for Olive Branch International (OBI) as they were on the ground in Sierra Leone to create the nation's first hospital chaplain program with 8 full-time and 12 volunteer chaplains a FULL NINE MONTHS BEFORE the Ebola virus epidemic hit Western Africa. When the Ebola epidemic ended, OBI gained and MAINTAINED THE CONFIDENCE of national civil authorities for STAYING THROUGHOUT the duration of the epidemic and for faithfully being the "hands and feet of Christ" while this West African nation was walking through the valley of death.

Turning back the clock, this website link from July 29, 2014 gives a vivid snapshot of what the OBI chaplains experienced in the midst of this Ebola epidemic:http://www.olivebranchintl.com/update-on-sierra-leone-and-…/

Here is the text below from that July 29, 2014 report

"Eight basic-trained hospital Chaplains are working in government hospitals in Freetown, Sierra Leone as the Ebola virus threatens the nation. Sanctioned by the Ministry of Health, and trained last October by the Virginia-based NGO, Olive Branch International, these hospital Chaplains work on the wards with patients and staff, providing comfort and guidance.

As the Ebola virus has now spread to the capital city in this nation of 6 million, the crisis will definitely impact the fragile health care system. On a normal daily OBI Chaplains provided supportive care to those in distress and greatly assist in a holistic model of patient care. The Ebola epidemic has proved difficult to contain as mistrust of Western health care systems has contributed to spread of the virus.

The Chaplains are presently working 130 hours a week in five area hospitals. The test is now not to simply put posters on the walls describing the symptoms of Ebola virus, but to maximize staff efforts to isolate and contain the virus. The OBI hospital Chaplains are now on the front lines of working to combat this horrific epidemic.”

Caroline Grube and Linda Sheimo visit Olive Branch Ukraine's (OBU) four hospital chaplains in Cherkasy, Ukraine. Nicholai Dudko is the director of the OBU hospital chaplain program. Four OBU hospital chaplains work with doctors, staff, and patients as counselors. In addition, the chaplains counsel AIDS patients, AIDS families, and provide women’s counseling. The hospital chaplains serve abandoned children received in the children’s ward. With the advent of war between Russia and Ukraine, there has been an influx of children from eastern Ukraine. Hospital chaplains are counseling soldiers traumatized by war. The hospital chaplaincy in Ukraine is a new concept. For many years, the OBU hospital chaplains were the only ones in the country. They are now in demand to make presentation at universities and other medical symposiums in Ukraine about their work.

Help send a teen to English/Bible Camp from 1-8 July 2017. Ukrainian teens from military families, some from displaced families. A week of English and Bible classes, camp activities and new American friends.

In the FIFTEEN YEARS of Olive Branch hosting the camp in Ukraine, an estimated 2,500 teenagers (14-17 years old) have attended the weeklong event.

The program consists of sports, a daily early morning meeting for a devotional taught by a Ukrainian chaplain, a morning program taught by an American chaplain, a Bible study led by a Ukrainian team leader, two English class sessions taught by the American team members, and evening program. The last evening of camp, the Ukrainian chaplain gives a message inviting the teens to commit to following Jesus Christ.

Olive Branch provides a $125 scholarship for every teenager from a military family to attend.

$125 scholarships. Changed lives!

David Farrow spent the past 4 days with the FOUNDER of Olive Branch International (OBI) who birthed an organization focused on SERVING the INTERNATIONAL MILITARY COMMUNITY 25 years ago not in his garage but in a humble upstairs office. Bruce and Judy Kittleson graciously shared their home over the past 4 days as they spent many hours together in this humble upstairs office.

Olive Branch International started as a global ministry 25 years ago with unreached people groups in Eastern Europe. For the four decades of the Cold War, global Christians prayed that God would open up the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe to the Gospel. In the early 1990s, God miraculously opened up the former Soviet Union and Olive Branch went into both Russia and Ukraine at the invitation of both governments.

Today, Ukraine is Olive's Branch's most mature and developed global ministry location. This maturity is demonstrated with the 2006 establishment of Olive Branch Ukraine (OBU), which is a Ukrainian registered public service organization with a national staff serving Ukraine.

In addition to Ukraine, OBI is a global non-profit organization that has served in 20 different nations on 6 different continents.

For 25 years, OBI has been a GREAT COMMANDMENT organization that responds to invitations from foreign governments to be the "hands and feet of Christ" in response to the spiritual, psychological, moral, and, physical injuries associated with natural disasters, war and violence, and economic collapse.
