Iran is the global epicenter of Shia Islam and has close relations with other countries in the Middle East and North Africa that have large Shia populations, particularly Iraq and Lebanon. It is the main rival to the region’s large Sunni Muslim states, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

A father of a Marine received a phone call informing him that his son was killed during a live-fire practice. The caller asked for a social security number and the father provided it to him. Imagine getting this devastating news. The father indeed had a son in the military. Thankfully, it was only a scam, but also food for thought. It appears as if this father was specifically targeted. Parents: How much information do you make publicly available? Examples include: Yard signs that your loved one is deployed and posts on social media. Remeber: Online support groups are not 100% safe. Anyone can claim to be a parent or a spouse, create a profile that looks like they indeed are. Think very carefully before sharing information. #OPSECmindset.

Your Child Has Already Been Targeted: 7 Things You Didn't Know About Human Trafficking

I know it might seem ridiculous to think that one of us could have a child who has been human trafficked. Our minds just don't work that way. Our hearts refuse to believe human trafficking could happen to us. But that doesn't make it any less real.

IN MEMORIAM: MA3 OSCAR JESUS TEMORES
20 Sept 1996 – 30 Nov 2019

“Petty Officer Temores was a remarkable individual and dedicated Sailor, who contributed greatly to the security of our base and country,” stated Captain Joey Frantzen, commander JEBLCFS. “He had great pride in his service to our country and a great love for his family. He was an exceptional representative of the young people of today who volunteer to serve in our military forces. He will be greatly missed.”

On Nov. 30, at approximately 7:35 p.m., a civilian male driving a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck entered the base through the outbound late of Gate 8 at a high rate of speed. The suspect was on base for a short period before he collided head on with a Navy patrol car driven by Temores. The incident remains under investigation.

Temores, 23, was a native of California. He reported to the base in June 2018 and quickly became a valuable member of the installation’s security team. He leaves behind a wife and two year-old son.

On Monday evening, a candlelight vigil was held at Saint Theresa chapel on Fort Story to honor and remember Temores. Nearly 130 first responders, family members, friends and shipmates attended.

“This was an opportunity for our security team to come together to honor a close member of our team,” stated Lieutenant Ryan Nolan, security officer, JEBLCFS. “It was especially important to us to have Petty Officer Temores’ family with us as we grieve and reconcile the loss of such an outstanding young man, one who had so much potential and commitment to our country.”

Rest easy shipmate. We have the watch.
