This morning, General President Ed Kelly joined Ryan McGill (Fairfax County, VA Local 2068), Derek Urwin (Los Angeles County, CA Local 1014) and Dr. Jeff Burgess (University of Arizona) to testify before the NFPA Standards Council in support of Tentative Intern Amendment (TIA) 1552. TIA 1552 would add Oriented Strand Board (OSB) to the list of materials prohibited for use during live fire training. “My number-one priority is the health and safety of our membership,” Kelly told the Standards Council. “Fire fighters go to work every day to protect the citizens of our two great countries – it’s our mission to protect them. I’m asking on behalf of our membership to accept TIA 1552.” Research has shown that OSB produces hazardous byproducts that expose our members to toxic chemicals and increase the risk of cancer.

I ask you to join me in supporting Ed Edzo Kelly, the leader we need, now and in the future, for General President of our International Association of Fire Fighters. Brother Kelly is ready to take the reins and lead our International on day one. He has demonstrated that he has the drive and dedication to advance our most cherished ideals. And he recognizes that every decision we make must be made through the lens of our members’ livelihood and their safety, all while honoring the sacrifices of our fallen and the solemn promise we have made to protect their families. #EdzoforIAFF #teamedzo
