U.S. Navy

Black history is ALSO American history.

Join the U.S. Navy in observing Black History Month by honoring the past, and securing the future. It is as true today as it was almost 30 years ago, "Ours must be a Navy family that recognizes no artificial barriers of race, color or religion." - Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr. 19th Chief of Naval Operations, Dec. 1970.

"I've always wanted to further my education and voluntary education programs have always been available for me, whether it's distance learning while stationed at sea or online classes while on shore duty. The NSA Naples NCO staff welcomed me with a warm smile and was always ready to assist.
I was able to start and complete my AA in general studies and a BS in psychology in less than 2 years! The NCO and UMGC team assisted me with all the questions, concerns and TA submissions I had."-NC1 Asha Clark

Master Chief O J Miller has been working with Navy College since 2000.
"This is a great resource for the Navy. It has helped me to attain my Master’s degree. I started off taking NCPACE classes onboard the USS Wasp. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I first started out. I was just motivated to get something. Navy College was an integral part in my success, I could always call them or email them with questions. I know some might think they can’t get a degree, I would say to you, sit down with a counselor and talk about what your goals are. Once that is done, start by taking one class at a time. As you go, follow your plan. You find out that it is pretty easy to complete. As always, Navy College is a phone call, text, or email away!"

#WorkforceWednesday
Meet Cornell Hemphill! Cornell came to Navy College after spending 8 years on active duty as a Machinist’s Mate in the Navy. While serving, Cornell earned his BS from Southern Illinois University in Workforce Education and Development-all paid for using Tuition Assistance. He joined the Navy College team because in his words, “I was very interested in counseling service members in using their tuition assistance benefits.” Currently Cornell works in the NCMIS program office helping push forward updates and innovations to the online MyNavy Education system allowing better self-service capabilities for our Sailors.
In his off time, he not only plays but also coaches and mentors youth through basketball. Check out this local news coverage of the work his organization does in the community.

Meet MA1 Latasha Roberson another VOLED success!
"Upon my arrival to my second command, I was determined to enroll into school but didn't know where to begin. I was afraid of signing up because I'd been out of school for so long. However, a push from a friend who later became my wife led me to the NCO in Yokosuka. Between the NCO Counselor and my Advisor with UMCG (UMUC at the time), I enrolled into and completed both an Associate's and a Bachelor's degree within 4 years!
It was hard road and many times I wanted to quit but determination and remembering that the Navy wasn't my last stop in life, I had to have something to fall back on.
I am truly grateful for the opportunity presented with tuition assistance, the GI Bill, financial aid as well as CLEP exams."

Spreading some holiday cheer.

The Department of the Navy issued orders today to Adm. S. Claus, recalling him to active duty, with a report date of Dec. 24, 2019. A reservist, with 1,742 years of service, this Naval Aviator specializes in vertical delivery of high-value items. He is carrier flight deck qualified. He is also a Public Affairs Officer.

Also recalled, were Lt. Cmdr. Dasher, Master Chief Dancer, Senior Chief Prancer, Lt. Vixen, Cmdr. Comet, Lt. Cmdr. Cupid, AW1 Donner, and AW1 Blitzen, Individual Augmentees from the Naval Reserve. Ensign Rudolph is also authorized to report for duty; however, he must first successfully complete Carrier Qual training, which he has failed three times.

Although the above Sailors are on orders for only 24 hours, it is anticipated that they will submit a travel claim for 24,901 miles at .56/mile, using a POV. Suitable government transportation is not available.

As a special operations unit, each member is granted a high level of uniform flexibility, as well as relaxed grooming standards. Per diem is authorized and has been modified to include large quantities of hot cocoa and cookies.

Go Navy and Happy Holidays!!! 🎄

P.S. - Let's ALL remember the men and women of our great Armed Forces, as they serve in far away lands during this Holiday Season ❤️
