Here is some motivation for your Monday! Last week, we had a former client stop by our Chesapeake office to make a $800 donation! She shared that CCEVA paid her rent about 10 years ago and she was so grateful that she wanted to pay it back to help the next person. We are so humbled to hear about the impact our FHC program had on this client and blown away by her generosity in paying it forward for the next family in need!

Happy #FeelGoodFriday! Today the members of our Grandparents as Parents (GAP) support group from Little Creek Elementary and James Monroe ES are gathering for their Annual Tea at our Main office. Most of the grandparents are seeing each other in person for the first time in over a year! Last year the GAP Tea was cancelled because of the pandemic and the grandparents have been holding their support group virtually ever since. Now that everyone is vaccinated, the group was able to come together in person. We love seeing everyone together again with big smiles on their faces!

Happy Feel Good Friday! Yesterday we were visited by God's Helpers, the service club at St. Matthew's School. These inspiring 2nd-8th graders started a baby supply drive at their school for families in our Pregnancy Support program. When they delivered their donations, they got to take a mini tour of our CARES center with our case manager and learn more about the families we serve. We were so in awe of their hearts for service!

Happy Feel Good Friday!

When two of our clients lost most of their personal items while living in a hotel, several CCEVA staff members went above and beyond to serve them. Brenda and Sandy generously cleaned out their family closets to provide much needed clothing and shoes for the couple. They also delivered food and hygiene products to the clients' new apartment!

Thank you to Sandy and Brenda for being Jesus' hands and feet for those in need!

We have a feel good photo to share to get you through the week!

This is Ms. C, one of our Companion Care clients, with her worker, Maddie. The pair have been together for a few months and each week Ms. C and Maddie enjoy each other's company while crafting together. Ms. C's favorite crafting project is hot-gluing seashells onto vases and wreaths and recently also learned how to play Uno! Since Maddie became Ms. C's worker, her daughter has noticed that she is happier and laughs more.

Over the weekend we held a Vision Board Session for our Aspire Participants courtesy of Nu Venue in Education Consultation and Training. Aspire is a mobility-informed pilot in collaboration with ForKids and funded by United Way of South Hampton Roads' Women United.

Participants were encouraged to identify who they are outside of the roles they fill -mothers, employees etc. - and to consider their personal desires and aspirations. Then they created visual representations of their goals to hang in their homes as a daily reminder of their dreams. We can't wait to see everything they will accomplish.

We have an inspiring story to share with you from one of our school mental health counselors for #MotivationalMonday!

A student after listening to a classroom presentation on bullying sought out the school counselor. The student admitted to the counselor that they had engaged in bullying others and wanted to stop their bullying behavior. The student now meets regularly with the school counselor and has changed the way that they interact with others. The student has turned their negative behaviors into positive behaviors and now presents as a different student and respectful classmate.

What a powerful story of growth to inspire us all! We are so proud of our counselor and their student!

Our Story

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia (CCEVA) was founded in 1932 as the Norfolk Bureau of Catholic Charities to care for widows, orphaned and abandoned children. More than eighty years later, our mission has expanded to include services for all people in need in five main areas: Youth & Family Services, Financial and Housing Counseling (including financial assistance), Mental Health Counseling, Health and Community Services and Senior Services. We serve people of every race, creed, ethnicity and religion (80% of our clients are not Catholic). Field offices cover a region spanning the Eastern Shore of Virginia, South Hampton Roads, the Peninsula, Williamsburg, York County and the Northern Neck, with a total population of over 1.6 million.

Can anyone please help with anything they can, please?? God bless!!
Well today has been a very hard day. I went to GAP Group today and was told the heart of the program Ms Milcah Wade was NO LONG with the group or should I say employed by Catholic Charities. The group was given NO REASON, just she is NO longer employed there. I have no idea what the problem is but I just want you to know you lost a jewel. Ms Wade was on her job 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Meaning she was always available a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear a smile when you needed it. Again I have know idea what happened, but please know the grandparents at Monroe School is heart broken. There is so much more to be said but I am so full I can't. God put Ms. Wade in our lives and there she will stay. God will send her through nothing that He will not bring her through. I have been with GAP every since the program was started with Mrs. Minnie Thomas Kathy Dial was good but Mrs. Wade was another Mrs. Minnie Thomas. Blessings and love sent to whom ever this message should be sent to. Respectfully Betty Clark.
Wanted to give a huge shoutout to Rebekah Hall. She worked with us to perform a home study for our adoption. She was so so helpful. She was super nice and was always available if we needed her. Thank you so much.
