Stolen Vehicle Leads to Crash and One Man at Large

Warrenton, Virginia – After a License Plate Reader (LPR) camera hit on a reported stolen black Camaro, the driver led Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office Deputies on a high-speed pursuit in Bealeton last night. A juvenile passenger was apprehended while the 19-year-old driver is still at large.

The Camaro was traveling south on Catlett Road when it passed a Deputy in Calverton, Virginia. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop on the reported stolen vehicle, but the driver immediately accelerated to over 100 MPH passing multiple cars across the double yellow lane markings. The driver approached the intersection of Station Drive at speeds over 120 MPH, slowed down and ran the red light and then over the Stop Stick tire deflation device a second Deputy successfully deployed.

The pursuit continued through the neighborhoods on Village Center Drive and Station Drive. After striking a Deputy’s cruiser, a PIT maneuver was performed and the vehicle spun off the road coming to a stop against a house on Winston Place. Two occupants bailed and fled on foot.

One occupant, a juvenile female from Prince William County was quickly apprehended. The male driver, later identified as 19-year-old Manuel D. Edwards of Manassas, was not located. The search for Edwards necessitated a Fauquier Alert citizen notification at approximately 10:30 PM, asking citizens to call 9-1-1 if they see anything suspicious.

Edwards is charged with Felony Eluding, Misdemeanor Eluding, Obstruction of Justice, Assault on Law Enforcement, Stolen property, Grand Larceny, No Operators License, and several other traffic infractions. The female juvenile was released to a family member, and juvenile petitions are anticipated.

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Manuel D. Edwards to contact us at 540-347-3300.
