25th Infantry Division Artillery
The Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 25th Infantry Division Artillery was constituted on 26 august 1941 in the army of The United States as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 25th Division Artillery. The unit was activated on 1 October 1941 in the territory of Hawaii. The 25th Division Artillery was allotted on 27 June 1949 to the Regular Army. From this point on, the 25th Infantry Division Artillery units played a vitally important role in the Pacific. During the Korean War, the 25th Infantry Division Artillery entered the Korean conflict from Japan on July 2nd, 1950. By August 13th, 1950, all of the 25th’s Field Artillery Battalions had arrived in Korea and the guns of the 25th Infantry Division Artillery played a major role in what was deemed the first attack by the 25th Infantry Division and first sizeable victory by U.S. During the Vietnam War, the 25th Infantry Division Artillery fought alongside the rest of the division units by fighting with five artillery battalions in a combined 59 campaigns, decisively engaging in operations to destroy their elusive enemy, to include fighting during The Tet offensive of 1968, and offensives against enemy sanctuaries in Cambodia during 1970. By April 1971 all division units returned to Hawaii after a seven-year fight in Southeast Asia. The 25th Infantry Division Artillery’s last deployment was to Afghanistan in June 2004. The unit was officially designated combined task force thunder on June 29. Commanded by now Major General Gary Cheek, the 25th Infantry Division Artillery was tasked with voter registration site security, training and equipping the Afghan National Police and security forces, and continuing Afghan reconstruction projects. On June 1, 2005, the 25th Infantry Division Artillery successfully completed its mission and return to Schofield Barracks, HI. As part of the army transformation taking place at the time, the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 25th Infantry Division Artillery was deactivated effective 15 November 2005.
