Eisenhower. The 57th was formed from three es**rt detachments plus one junior officer as commander, CPT Raymond C. Bessene of Malone, New York. The company immediately began preparations for sailing to Italy from Oran with orders to embark on 21 December, destination Naples. At their first assignment in Naples, the 57th began to prepare for loading operations in mid- January to impede Anzio Landin
gs. The 57th performed security, traffic control, and convoy es**rt duties during the invasion. The 57th was alerted to move to Rome in July 1944. They were given the responsibility of, maintaining law and order in the city including traffic patrol and control, crime detection and investigation, civilian control (working with Italian police) and military convoy es**rts through the city. In June 1945, the unit received orders to prepare for shipment to the pacific theater of operations for assignment to the 8th Army. During the next five months, the 57th handled security and patrol duties in the ravaged Manila while awaiting orders to return home. The 57th Military Police Company has a proud heritage. Everyday as the Soldiers of this company carry out their mission at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, they continue to do honor to the 57th.
