Greg Tompkins Announces Withdrawal from Walla Walla County Auditor Race to Focus on Interim Fairgrounds Manager Role
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Greg Tompkins announced today he will withdraw from the Walla Walla County Auditor race in order to devote his full attention to serving as interim manager of the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds and focus on the upcoming Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days.
Tompkins recognized an opportunity to make a positive broader impact on the community as the interim fairgrounds manager. This decision reflects his commitment to public service and his belief that the operation of the fairgrounds requires steady, focused leadership particularly during one of its most important times of the year.
“I entered the County Auditor’s race because I care deeply about Walla Walla County and believe in effective, honest and accessible county government,” Tompkins said. “That same commitment is what leads me to step away from the campaign at this time. The fairgrounds and the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days are important to families, youth, exhibitors, volunteers, businesses, and visitors throughout our region. This interim role deserves my full attention, and I want to give it the focus and energy it needs.”
Tompkins expressed gratitude to the community members who encouraged and supported his campaign for County Auditor. “I am sincerely appreciative of and grateful to everyone who contributed, offered advice, placed their confidence in me, and took the time to talk about the future of county government,” Tompkins said. “Because I am ending this campaign, every donation will be returned in full.”
His immediate priority, Tompkins said, is helping the fairgrounds team, volunteers, partners, and county leadership prepare for a strong and well-organized fair season. To date, in his role as interim fairgrounds manager, he has obtained several additional Fair sponsorships by creating new opportunities, pursuing new events and new funding partners.
“The fair is more than an event; it is a tradition that brings people together and showcases the best of our county,” Tompkins said. “I am honored to help guide this work during the interim period, and I look forward to contributing wherever I can to ensure the fairgrounds remains a strong community asset.”
As he ends his campaign, Tompkins encourages voters to remain engaged in the County Auditor race and become an informed voter and vote.
He also stated his intent to apply for the permanent Fairgrounds Manager position.
