STEP Women's Shelter Serving the homeless women of Walla Walla County The STEP Shelter’s philosophy hinges on two important factors.

First, STEP provides single homeless women a safe night's sleep, off the streets. While we provide shelter for our clients, we also maintain a focus on its temporary nature. Moving into their own permanent housing is STEP’s optimal goal for its clients. Second, STEP uses a rigorous case management plan to identify the obstacles these women face in obtaining and maintaining permanent housing, in or

der to work with them on ways to overcome these obstacles. STEP's case management philosophy centers on independent living. We emphasize self-sufficiency as well as detachment from temporary solutions. STEP focuses on clients developing a mutually agreed upon Action Plan. The Action Plan serves two purposes: first, it is a roadmap for the client to achieve permanent housing, and second, it is an accountability tool for the case manager to motivate the client. STEP works with homeless women to achieve positive steps forward in their life experience.
