The Arkansas Snipe Season is officially set to open July 1st, and wildlife officials are reminding hunters to review regulations before heading into the woods.

Officials say mature snipes may only be harvested at night and must be collected using approved paper or fabric bags. Flashlights are permitted, but spotlights remain prohibited after several unfortunate incidents involving confused cows, lawn ornaments, and one county commissioner.

Game wardens also remind hunters that snipes are extremely elusive and can often be found in remote locations after midnight. New hunters are encouraged to bring a friend, preferably one willing to stand alone in a dark field holding the bag while experienced hunters circle the area.

Authorities warn that violations will be strictly enforced, though they admit they have yet to successfully catch anyone with an illegal snipe.

Residents are advised that if a family member returns home at 3 a.m. claiming they chased one for six miles through the woods and almost had it in the bag, that is considered a normal and successful snipe hunt.

🚨**Hit-and-Run Investigation — HCSO Asking for Help**🚨

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help after a deadly hit-and-run in northwest Harris County.

According to HCSO, 78-year-old Jerald Wayne Skaines was struck and killed by a vehicle sometime during the night of May 23–24 in the 29000 block of Old Washington Road. The driver left the scene without stopping.

Investigators are looking for a 1994–2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck believed to be connected to the case.

I want to congratulate Shannon Wooten Birkelbach on her victory in the Republican primary runoff for Waller County Commissioner, Precinct 2.

Shannon, you ran a strong campaign, and the voters have spoken. I sincerely wish you success as you take on this important role. I hope you will work hard, listen to the citizens of Precinct 2, and do good things for Waller County.

To my supporters, family, volunteers, and friends — thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your hard work, encouragement, and belief in our campaign meant more than I can say.

While we did not prevail this time, I am proud of the race we ran and the ideas we put forward.
Waller County is a special place, and I remain deeply committed to our community. I will continue to support efforts that make our county stronger, safer, and more prosperous for all who call it home.
