The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was founded in Baltimore by British immigrant Thomas Wildey on April 25, 1819. As an Englishman, Wildey had found it difficult to establish friendships in a city still smarting from the War of 1812. Placing an ad in the paper, Wildey found four others willing to join; together they established Washington Lodge Number 1. Members of the order are "bound together by the ties of friendship, love, and truth for the purposes of alleviating the sufferings of humanity." This "three-link-fraternity" is based on two Biblical stories; that of Jonathan and David, a parable of friendship and mutual relief; and the story of the Good Samaritan, which illustrates the second principle, love. Truth, the third link, binds the first two together. The all-seeing eye at the top of this image commands its members to "Visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead, and educate the orphan." Female figures of Charity and Faith stand on either side with a cornucopia and anchor, respectively. Fraternal organizations committed to public service became common in the United States, offering members fellowship while strengthening ties within a larger community.

Mission: To provide the Members of the Lodges in the District an avenue to communicate with each other, about what is going on within our District. To stimulate interest with Local residents to join and become involved in this organization. For Lodges to share photos of events and happenings.

We'd like it all to be fun and games, but it just can't always be so. That is why on a cloudy Thursday the brothers of Lafayette lodge broke out their chippers, scrappers and paint brushes to give so long needed love to the lodges back stairs. It looks so clean now! It is amazing how much you can get done when you work together!

The Brothers of Lafayette Lodge joined with their friends and neighbors for the Village of Wappinger falls clean sweep on Saturday. The brothers cleaned the municipal parking lot off Spring St. and then finding time left over cleaned litter along route #9D and still manged to do some yardwork at the lodge and rural cemetery. The good news is there was a lot less trash in years past. People are being cleaner. The better news is the entire clean sweep had a great turnout!

The time is coming near to select our annual scholarship award winners. Our scholarship is a little different than most. We wish the class valedictorian well, but we are looking for someone else. The comeback kid, who got over a tough start or someone who has overcome personal or family tragedy and could use a little helping hand. Why do we do that? Because we are ODDFELLOWS!

You never know where you will find an Odd fellow mention.
TCM,Turner Classic Movies, shows Film Noir classics Saturday's and this week's offering had a classic IOOF scene in the background. "Crossfire" is a 1947 Noir classic that starts aqs a murder mystery that quickly becomes more concerned with the killers motive in the crime. A theme very much in keeping with our three rings philosophy.

It was cold, it was windy and there had been a noreaster the day before but that didn't stop St. Patrick from coming to Wappinger Falls. The marchers marched, the spectators came and the brothers of Lafayette Lodge were there to provide hot chocolate to all. We want to give A special shout out to our cub scout troop kids and chaperones who did us proud marching in style, well done!

Her name is Lily and she is in second grade. She likes barbie, arts & crafts and monster high dolls. We were honored to have her and her mom as our guests of honor at Lafayette lodges annual holiday party. Lily got lots presents, got to meet Santa and stole our hearts.
You see Lily is ill, very ill. But Lilly is a fighter and you wouldn’t have known it that night. She and her mom are doing their best and Lily is going through what no second grader should have to.
We are thankful to have been able to help them both in whatever small could. We wish Lily and her mom a very merry Christmas and we hope and pray she may have many, many, more.
