#WAPPINGERSRISES- Is a Grassroots effort by village residents aimed at bringing us closer together as a community and to attract strong businesses, families, and individuals to the Village of Wappinger’s Falls. The “Revival” All signs are indicating that this village is in the early stages of a true “Revival” period: Six new businesses have opened their doors in the last 3 months, another 3-4 are anticipated shortly, the Planning Board is reviewing a record number of applications for new businesses and building renovations, construction projects that have been on hold for years are now coming back to life, real estate professionals are reporting escalated interest in both commercial and residential properties, and the village streets and shops are coming alive with visible activity from long-time residents, newcomers, and visitors alike. In order to promote this effort- we are asking that everyone (residents, visitors, businesses, village: Police, Fire, Highway, Recreation, Historical, Business, Civics, …etc) please include the #WAPPINGERSRISES hashtag in your posts on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and any other social media. This will give the general public a single source to access information ( announcements, events, live music, food/drink specials, historical facts, volunteer opportunities…etc.) within the village almost real-time...we welcome anything positive that brings us together as a community. This WILL NOT be a forum for opinions or debate.

Community Spotlight Continues! For over a year now we’ve been donating to the tiny food pantry (TFP) outside The Methodist Church. We took a few minutes to catch up with the folks behind this!

WR: Good Morning Karen (George)!! We’ve dropped non perishables into the tiny food pantry in Wappingers and Beacon and recently realized it’s Fareground. Can you tell us more about this?

KAREN: The TFP’s are in Beacon (as you know) and Wappingers. We have several pantries being built currently. They are built by the volunteers in the community with donated materials that are all weather. They hold nonperishable items, toiletries men/women and baby needs. You can take what you need and leave what you can. They are accessible 24/7 for anyone to use. The community supports them as well as donation promotions Fareground runs for them. We also have a Wishlist on Amazon that people can shop at and have product shipped directly to us,https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/DZ7DNR7X0AR2/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex. Beacon Natural Market in Beacon and Keyfood in Beacon have bins that people donate to as well.

WR: In addition to the tiny food pantries with the pandemic we are facing is there anything else you are focusing on?

KAREN: With the pandemic we are currently facing, we became first responders to the need for food and collaborated with the BSD to feed the kiddos. As they handed out their lunches to go, Fareground handed out dinners to go. We started with 35 meals on a Monday and by the end of the first week we were handing out 300 2x a week. In addition, we are handing out/delivering, if necessary, meals to people in Wappingers/Fishkill and Poughkeepsie. We have partnered with Chubby’s Deli in the Village of Wappingers who lets us know how many he needs to hand out – he is serving lunches to go for the kiddos in the Village. Mamma Musetti’s was feeding 60 kids and giving dinners to them for the last 2 weeks as well. Mamma’s is working on ways in the future to feed families that face food insecurities and we will collaborate with them – the need to feed will never go away….
We are collaborating with JNLTech in Beacon, the BSD, Mutual Aide in Beacon, Beacon Community Kitchen and endless list of volunteers and do gooders.

WR: How can we help and support your efforts?

KAREN: We post on social media, You know your from Wappingers Falls, Wappinger Rises and various other groups to let everyone know that we are here to help. In addition, we are sending emails to our email list that is growing by the day!
Check out our website, www.fareground.org, on Facebook at Tiny Food Pantries, Hosted by Fareground, Inc and on IG #fareground

WR: Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do!

WR Community Spotlight! We had a chat with local resident and photographer Charlie Ferry, always a pleasure.

WR: Charlie, you’ve been inspiring us for years and years with your photography and we know you enjoy walking around the village and capturing beautiful moments. How have you been these last few weeks? Out and about much?

CHARLIE: I have been walking but had been leaving my camera at home, just beginning to be motivated to photo-document this health crisis. When I am out I’ve been seeing others walking and for the most part following the rules for social separation. From what I’ve seen most people give more than the 6 feet. I see many more family’s walking together which is actually kind of nice. Dog walking has become a major pass time.

WR: Anything you want to share as one of the many people who enjoy the parks?

CHARLIE: The value of having usable public open space is being seen during this crisis. Be respectful to social distancing and clean up after your dogs so all can enjoy.

WR: Promise us you will take more photos soon. We miss them and they always bring us together. Thanks for connecting with us.

Good Morning from WR community voices! Yesterday we connected with General Manager Craig Lombardi over at BJ’S Wholesale Club. Considering sharing this post to spread the love.

WR: Hi Craig! Thanks for taking the time to connect. We’ve been so inspired by your posts we had to reach out. How long have you been the manager at the BJ‘S Wholesale Club in Wappinger? Tell us a bit about yourself!

CRAIG: I joined BJ’s Wholesale Club in January 2018 and was just promoted to serve as the general manager of BJ’s club in Wappinger in December 2019. Before that, I served as the senior merchandising/operations manager at BJ’s club in Brookfield, CT and prior to that, I held senior manager positions in Auburn, MA and Framingham, MA.
I am the father of three boys: Austin (16), Ayden (11) and Arie (5). Outside of work, I focus on being involved with my boys’ school and sports activities. I coach and volunteer at everything they are a part of. I have lived in Wappinger for over thirty years and have always been very active in my community by volunteering at local food banks and shelters and donating product to local organizations to really help make a difference in the community.

WR: We have seen you help local businesses providing supplies, food, and water, can you tell us more about this?

CRAIG: BJ’s is focused on nourishing communities and helping families thrive by providing access to basic essentials. Now, more than ever, we are here to serve our members during these challenging times by giving them access to food and other products they need. Our donations are a small gesture to thank the members of our community who are out there on the front lines. I’m thrilled to be able to contribute to the community in which I live and work.

WR: Anything else we should know about shopping at BJ’S the coming weeks?

CRAIG: The safety of our members, team members and our community is always our top priority. We continue to follow recommendations and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health organizations to help ensure our clubs exceed our already high standards for general hygiene and health practices.
We will continue to welcome members who are age 60 and over to shop in a less crowded environment every day from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.
We also have adjusted our club hours and are now closing at 8pm Monday-Saturday to give our team members more time to restock, sanitize and recharge.
We are working hard to get the items families need in stock.

WR: Craig, we thank you and BJ’S for all you’ve done and continue to do! We will continue to share and support all you do. Thank you so much for your time today.

Our next Community Spotlight! Thank you Miss Liz for taking the time to connect with us.

WR: Hi Liz (owner of Mindful
Yoga With Liz) Tell us a little more about you- we remember you saying you lived in the village- when was that?!

MISS LIZ: Hi!! Thanks so much for this opportunity! I love the village and love seeing all of the posts and thriving businesses! I lived in the village for about 13 years before moving in with my, now, husband and two amazing step kids. My side of the family still lives in the village so my presence is still going strong. I lived in the cutest studio apartment, worked at the local daycare while I was in college and was a frequent visitor of Eddies, The Quiet Man and Cafe Maya. My favorite event is still the St Paddy’s Day Parade 🍀. I love the support of all of the businesses and how many people come to gather and support one another. One of my goals is to be able to open a second studio in the village!!

WR: YES!!! Second Studio in The Village please! You’ve worked wonders with children and families at your brick and mortar studio in poughkeepsie. Recently we’ve actually had the chance to attend your virtual live classes online- what has changed with the temporary closure of your physical studio space?

MISS LIZ: I’ve always said the best thing about a yoga studio is it’s just a room and it is what you make it. So our dining room has been transformed into the new Virtual Studio! As all of us small business owners had to do, I had to adapt with what I had quickly. I’ve taken all of my classes online, via Zoom, where kids can see one another and interact with myself and other kids. Now, more than ever, they need the socialization while learning coping skills, self soothing techniques, ways to manage anxiety and how to move their bodies in healthy ways. Since we’re all home, I’ve just added as many classes as I can! We have everything from Baby Yoga to Toddlers to Tween Girl Power to BOYoga to Teens Only to us adults!

WR: YES! We loved your virtual classes! How can people find you now?

MISS LIZ: I’m always on Facebook and Instagram at Mindful Yoga With Liz and I’ve been doing at least 2-3 free live class a week on both platforms. My website has the full schedule of zoom classes (www.mindfulyogawithliz.com)

WR: General guidance you may want to share with folks?

MISS LIZ: Allow yourself to feel. This is a roller coaster for many of us! Try to check in with yourself multiple times a day. Be patient with yourself. Be present with your families. BREATHE!! Try to support local businesses, even if that looks like sharing a post. And always reach out to me if I can be of any assistance!! We are a community and we WILL get through this together!

WR: Thank you Miss Liz, catch you at a virtual class real soon. 💓

Please consider sharing this post to help
spread the word. Today we had a chance to catch up with the folks who organized this GoFundMe Page. They just completed a delivery to Vassar partnering with Publick House in Pleasant Valley! Pictures below. As they said,

“YOU, the community helped us raise funds to purchase 50 individual lunches to the Vassar Hospital ICU on 3/28. Our next restaurant is AJ Cafe in The Village of Wappinger Falls. We want to continue to raise funds to provide a larger order and feed more staff”

Now is the time to consider a donation to this group and help support our very own AJ CAFE and the frontline at the same time. If possible, consider donating as it will go directly to AJ CAFE to directly feed the frontline at Vassar.

We caught up with Jess Howe owner of Ruinous Revived for our next Community Spotlight. We are going to keep these rolling, Message us- we would love to feature you. #wappingersrises

WR: Hellllooo Jess! How’s the world of restoring furniture? We saw the gorgeous table and chairs you recently completed!!

JESS: Hello! 👋🏻 The world of restoring furniture has been good! My newly finished dining table and chair set has already been sold 🥳

WR: We miss you, have you been working on new pieces?

JESS: I miss everyone so much! I’m currently trying to narrow down which projects are going under the sander next! I’m leaning towards this lovely little bar cabinet that’s been in the shop that needs some love.

WR: Tell us about your day to day, you had just brought in a new product line, can you tell us about that?

JESS: My new normal day to day has been trying to add as much online as possible so everyone’s still able to shop! The new product line is soo exciting for me. Since we’ve opened up I’ve dreamed about expanding to feature even more local artisans and I’ve been able to add two new ones to the shop creating an apothecary line of soaps, rooms sprays, perfumes, and even one candle scent! I’m currently working at home enjoying the ‘Denny’s Point’ room spray 🥰 Such a great way to start my morning!

WR: What can we do to help? How can we support you?

JESS: A great way to help us out is to browse our products online for some retail therapy! If there’s nothing catching your eye now we also have our gift cards online. And of course a great way to help without spending a dime is by sharing and commenting on our posts to show some love ☺️

WR: Thank you Jess!! We long for the days to grab an ice cream sandwich at The Creamery and visit your shop! ***Be sure to follow @ruinous_revived on social media- Jess has a great account! Perfect balance of entertainment and amazing treasures. See you soon 💓

Good Morning! Our WR Community Spotlight goes Q&A with members of community. We want to share everyone’s voices during this time. Here’s our chat with Di’Vine Wine Bar. More to come!

WR: Hellllooo Di’Vine!! We miss you (and Welcome Back Wednesday nights at the wine bar) - We always thought that was a great way to say “thank you and we want you back“ How are you, what do you miss?

DWB: We miss Wednesday Nights at the Bar also (as well as every night at the bar). Welcome Back Wednesdays WILL return in due time! Our customers are our favorite part of what we do and we miss seeing, serving, chatting with everyone!

WR: Tell us about your wine packages being offered now.

DWB: We are currently serving our full menu to go on Fridays and Saturdays from 3pm-7pm. We are offering full food and wine list (while supplies last). We are reassessing week to week as we navigate this unfamiliarity.

WR: You host a lot of incredible talent at your wine bar, how do we support musicians during this time?

DWB: Most of our musicians are hosting viewing parties on Facebook. Please follow/like/share/comment you can find their info in our recent posts. They miss playing out as much as we miss seeing them play out. Live music is a huge part of what we do at di'Vine. We will continue to post to our page and tag our musicians.

WR: What can we do to help? How can we support you?

DWB: Order take out food and wine. Let us know if extended hours are needed. Pre-order as much as possible so we know what to expect. We have not been (or plan on) purchasing big orders of food/wine. We are stocking daily based on needs.

WR: We will continue to support you. Thank you Di’Vine Wine Bar Family, We love you!

I have read some stories of the tragic fire. I undrstand that many families have lost thier homes and everything in them. Coincidentally, I recently purchased new Living room furniture. I was hoping to donate my 3 piece sectional to a charity group of some sort but NYS law will not allow me to do this because one of the pieces has a sleeper in it. I'm not going to lie; the longest piece that has the two recliners and a fold down table shows wear but no tear. the other two pieces, including the sleeper, are in good condition. I was going to put it on Facebook marketplace. If any of these families can use this I would be willing to give it away. Someone would have to come to Hyde Park to pick it up. Private Message me if this can be arranged. i will not put it on Marketplace until Tuesday. Thoughts and Prayers for all and thank you to all first responders for doing what you do.
