ANNA MARIE (DOWER) MAHONEY R.I.P.
1949-2026
LENA, IL - Anna “Ann” (Dower) Mahoney, 76, of Lena, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home following a four-year courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her husband and family on January 19th, 2026.
Ann was born May 20th, 1949, in Monroe, Wisconsin to Robert and Rosemary (Fox) Dower. She married Mark Mahoney on February 27th, 1988, in Darlington, Wisconsin. She was a member of the last graduating class of Gratiot High School in Gratiot, Wisconsin in 1967.
Ann owned and was the Publisher/Editor of The Flash Newspaper with her husband for 35 years. She spent several years as a teller at First National Bank of Monroe, State Bank of Winslow and Citizens State Bank. She was also a Diet Consultant for Slender Center and Nutrisystem.
Ann loved the trips she took with Mark and FS to San Diego and The Del Coronado, Las Vegas and Jamaica. Ann also loved her trips to Mt. Rushmore, The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, and Redwing, Minnesota. Ann especially loved to travel and enjoy trips to downtown Chicago for weekends at The Palmer House Hotel and shopping downtown at Marshall Fields, Carson Pire Scott and Macy’s.
Ann had so much fun with her Friday night card club friends playing “Nutsy” and laughing for many years. She was a great organizer, an avid antique collector (starting at age seven) and was a huge follower of Elvis, The Beatles and Kenny Rogers.
But most of all Ann loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family.
She is survived by her husband - Mark Mahoney of Lena, Illinois; daughter - Jennifer (Jim) Heidenreich of Apple River, Illinois; step-son - Partick Mahoney of Boscobel, Wisconsin; granddaughters - DreAna (Marcus Duha) Heidenreich of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Dharma Heidenreich of Lisle, Illinois; in laws Mike (Marcia) Mahoney, Patrice (Jim) Krupke, Christine (Bob) Stewart, Colleen Riley and Matt Mahoney, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is also survived by “special” family; Kurtis, Val, Ava and Claudia Heidenreich and Jamie, Carey, Kyle (Laurel) and Mitchell Wolff all of Warren, Illinois; Robert (Bob) Gile of Dubuque, Iowa.
Annie was a very special person and will be missed by Mark and her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws James (Jim) Mahoney and Grace (Pat) Mahoney; brother-in-law Zane Riley, her best friend Noreen Gile and Noreen’s son, Jason Gile.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday January 25th, 2026, at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena. Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 26,2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lena with a visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Father Andrew Hernandez will be officiating.
Interment will take place at the Lena Burial Park in Lena, Illinois.
A memorial has been established in her name.
