For those of you who are interested in what a legislator does during the legislative interim, please enjoy this week’s “Under Two from the Capitol.“

05/25/2026

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who lost their lives in service to our country and the freedoms that we hold dear.

Please take a moment today to remember our fallen who sacrificed everything in service to our country.

On this edition of “Under Two from the Capitol,” as we wrap up the first week of the interim, I thought it would be a great time to introduce our intern for this past session, Ethan Schwirtz.

Ethan is a junior at the University of Central Missouri (UCM), who was a valuable part of our team. He helped Dakota and me with legislative research, preparation for committee hearings, constituent outreach, and so much more.

I know Ethan has a bright future ahead of him, and I want to thank him for helping me serve the people of District 54.

Please enjoy the first interim edition of “Under Two from the Capitol.”

Happy Mother’s Day to the incredible moms of our district.

Today we pause to recognize and thank you for your love, sacrifice, strength, and the countless ways you shape our families and future. Today we celebrate you and all that you do.

This week, I am proud to report the return of “Under Two from the Capitol.”

04/30/2026

I want to start by apologizing once again to the people of our district for the additional thirteen seconds. In an effort to return to "Under Two from the Capitol," we are actively seeking a new stopwatch, as ours is obviously not working. If anyone has any recommendations on a good stopwatch, please let us know.

In the meantime, please enjoy the return of
"Slightly Over Two from the Capitol."

This week, I am proud to report that with the help of my staff, we shaved off seven whole seconds. We are well on our way to making up for the time lost over the last couple of weeks.

In this week’s edition, I wanted to introduce my one and only staff member, Dakota Julian, who has been a trusted advisor and member of my staff since I entered office over a year ago. This week, I asked for his help in returning “Slightly Over Two from the Capitol” to “Under Two from the Capitol.”

With that, I am proud to report the return of “Under Two from the Capitol.”

Once again, I want to apologize to the people of the district for going over the two-minute limit. As it turns out, despite my staff's efforts, it is really hard to get me to stop speaking in two minutes. My staff tells me that I now have to make up the extra five seconds plus the 12 seconds from last week next week. I do promise that eventually, we will get back to being “Under Two from the Capitol.”

Until then, please enjoy another segment of “Slightly Over Two from the Capitol.”

I was proud to carry this bill to ensure that our bail bond agents uphold the professional standards the people of Missouri deserve. This oversight allows the bail bonds industry to have a seat at the table when we discuss required training and professionalism.

This bill passed the House with bipartisan support, and I look forward to presenting it in the Senate.

House Bill 3111, sponsored by Rep. Brandon Phelps, has been third read and passed the House. It is now in the Senate.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet with graduate students from the University of Central Missouri’s (UCM) Marriage and Family Therapy and Human Development and Family Science programs.

I was honored to listen as these students shared their perspectives on the issues that matter to them. I always tell the people who visit me, "I am here for you, and this is your building." I am always happy to meet and discuss the issues that matter to the people of our district.
