MISSION: Strengthen The Nation's Capacity To Increase The Hispanic Health Workforce And Advance The Health of Hispanics. Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, established in 1996 and created as part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ “Hispanic Agenda for Action” initiative, with the intention of addressing the mounting public health issue of providing quality and culturally competent healthcare to Hispanics living in the United States. By supplying essential academic and career development resources to students, faculty, and other health professionals, HSHPS addresses the health inequities that exist among the Hispanic community.

Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards

Applications are being accepted now through October 15 for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation's 2015 Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards.

Selected individuals will receive grants either for their education or for a community service project. These students will additionally be brought into the HHF Latinos on Fast Track (LOFT) Program.

Qualified candidates for this award...

- Are rising high school seniors (set to graduate in Spring 2016)
- Plan to enroll in college in Fall 2016
- Are of Hispanic/Latino descent
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or 7.5 on a 10.0 scale
- Are willing to travel at own cost to the regional awards ceremony, which is mandatory for selected students.

Award categories include: Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Education, Engineering & Mathematics, Healthcare & Science, Innovation & Technology and Sports & Fitness.

The HSHPS Graduate Fellowship Training Program provides PAID training opportunities for graduate and doctoral students and recent graduates interested in working on Hispanic health research. Fellows are placed throughout the United States and Latin America within government agencies and academic institutions. All HSHPS fellows work along side a mentor, an experienced researcher or senior staff member; assist with a research project as it relates to minority health issues; and participate in a series of professional development seminars.
