“Prepared you must be… or in the dark, you will sit.”

Storm coming? Power outage? Unexpected chaos? Don’t be caught like a stormtrooper with bad aim. Stock your emergency kit, charge your devices, and have a plan.

Stay safe, stay ready… and may your snacks be plentiful and your batteries fully charged. ✨

Spring in the Northwoods means rising wildfire risk. Conditions can change quickly as the snowpack melts and grasses dry out. Let’s work together to keep Bayfield County safe this spring!
Please remember:
• Most spring wildfires start from debris burning;
• Check the WI DNR daily burning restrictions before lighting anything;
• Consider alternatives like chipping, composting, or using a brush disposal site; and
• If you see smoke or fire where it shouldn’t be, call 911 immediately!

The transition from winter to spring can bring some pretty big storms to Bayfield County. Sometimes snow, sometimes rain--and often both! We often get asked, what's the difference between a storm watch and a storm warning? Here’s a quick refresher:

• Watch: Conditions are favorable for severe weather. Stay alert.
• Warning: Severe weather is happening or imminent. Take action immediately.

Being able to recognize these alerts helps you respond quickly when storms roll in!

Due to the weather, which has made travel conditions unsafe, the School District of Washburn will not have in-person school tomorrow, Monday, March 16, 2026.

Virtual learning will still take place for students in grades 4K-12.

4K-6 teachers will email families more information about activities for the day by 9:00 am. The activities will be inclusive for those students who don't have their technology at home.

Students in grades 7-12 should check their Google Classroom/School Email for Google Meet links and lessons/materials. All 7-12 students should be logged in to their first-hour class by 9 am. If parents/students have any questions about class, they should email their teacher(s).

The Early Learning Center (ELC) will be closed. All after-school activities are canceled.
