House Ag GOP Ranking Member Mike Conaway welcomes you to the House Agriculture Committee Republican's page. In House Report 321 of August 5, 1856, the committee had this to say: "Agriculture is the basis of our national prosperity.

It is the substratum of all other interests; and the degree of advancement which marks the progress of our country and its people in wealth, enterprise, education, and substantial independence, is measured by the prosperity of its rural interests."

This account of the North Complex West Zone aftermath by Dave Daley, a Butte County rancher, is heartbreaking and real. I’ve known Dave since high school, when he was FFA President. This tragedy his fine family and many others are enduring, grieves me greatly, and all who would read his story. Many in the North State are all too familiar with the devastating losses that come with the fire season. As Dave points out, this loss of land, wildlife, and property is preventable should we listen to the locals who understand their predicaments best. Endless, pointless environmental lawsuits, as well as the state and longtime federal bureaucracies, stand in the way of the active land management that would prevent these disasters from ravaging our region year-after-year.
