Feds name Guam Shipyard as center for maritime training

ICYMI - Congratulations to Guam!

In May 2021, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration named the shipyard, which has been operating on Guam since 1997, as one of 27 national training and education centers. It named centers of excellence at institutions in 16 states, mostly at community colleges.

The Guam Shipyard is the only MARAD-designated training center in a U.S. territory and the only one in the Pacific.

ICYMI - the Bureau of Economic Analysis has released the 2019 GDP for the U.S. Virgin Islands!

The estimates of GDP for the USVI show that real GDP—GDP adjusted to remove price changes—increased 2.2 percent in 2019 after increasing 1.6 percent in 2018. This release also includes the results of a comprehensive update of the territorial economic accounts.

Amazing! American Samoa has some beautiful and amazing natural resources !

Massive, Record-Setting Coral Colonies on Tau Island, American Samoa
Can you imagine a coral colony that is wider than a bowling alley is long and taller than a giraffe?
A coral colony on Tau Island, American Samoa was recently documented as one of the largest known corals in the world. At 22.4 m across and 8 m tall, this coral colony is very impressive and may help shed light on what conditions help support such long-lived corals!
DOI works with NOAA through the Marine Protected Areas Center to help conserve important ocean and coastal areas.
